Magazine - Real Life
The British band's first album, published in 1978 on Virgin Records.
Singer Howard Devoto used to play in the punk band Buzzcocks before.
A change from funny, aggressive punk to something more thoughtful.
Guitarist John McGeoch left the band later to join Siouxsie and the Banshees in 1980.

"All of Magazine’s studio albums to be reissued on vinyl"
As a big fan of the post punk band Magazine, I am very excited for:
People who also like the band ⋂ People who play vinyl ⋂ People with too much money

I'd forgotten how good this pairing was. Beast Box was in heavy rotation for me when it came out.
And one can't complain about any rendition of The Light Pours Out Of Me, especially with the original singer belting it out and the bass right at the front.
Seems like a good idea to listen to Devoto’s “Cold Imagination,” today as this arctic blast rolls in. #music #vinyl #VinylRecords #vinylcollection #nowPlaying #howarddevoto #postpunk
#NowPlaying #TheSpindle Marc and John delve into what may be the first true post-punk single: #Magazine’s 1978 7-inch “Shot by Both Sides” backed with “My Mind Ain’t So Open.” Led by #HowardDevoto, the former Buzzcock who was already disillusioned with punk, Magazine truly ripped it up and started again, pulling the music of late 70s UK into the future. https://wastoids.com/2023/09/07/magazine-shot-by-both-sides-b-w-my-mind-aint-so-open-the-spindle/

@phantom_power_music_blog compared us to @buzzcocks___official which melted our hearts. Not much has ever got close to the pure pop majesty of the Buzzcocks. @petebrock2023 does have an effects pedal signed by Pete Shelley somewhere. True Fact.

Some brilliant and temperature relevant Howard Devoto (one of my absolute favorite witty lyricists) to start this cold and snow buried day in the Rockies.
“Hey, I'm freezing
Icicles are on the vine
This ice age
It could finish off Frankenstein”
