Nachdem ich mir das nun ein paar Tage angesehen und getestet und hinterfragt habe, bin ich endlich auf eine geniale Lösung gekommen wie ich meine 8! Bose Lautsprecher doch noch gebrauchen kann. Ich verkaufe den Bluetooth-Müll und kaufe mir ein neues System. Weg mit #soundtouch #bose willkommen #denon #heos

I installed a @musicassistant and playing with it for a while.
It's an audio server that can stream music from multiple sources to multiple players over multiple protocols.
For example I am using #Tidal and my local music in #Jellyfin as a music sources and #NextCloud #GPodder plugin as podcast source.
And I am playing it on Denon receiver over #Heos protocol, on Android TV over #Chromcast or just in the browser on laptop and phone.
It's like a common roof for audio sources and players around you.
It works. It's new, so expect some bugs and rough edges, but it already has better interface than tidal has, so I am using it often as a main player. 👍🎶🔊

I can’t tell if Jellyfin is a terrible DLNA server for music or if Denon’s HEOS app is a terrible DLNA client. This is not useful for a 1TB music collection. #jellyfin #heos #denon

@panda @masek This unfortunately did not work well for my #denon #heos Homecinema Bar. I’ve tried to separate into it's own Media Wifi with mDNS support but I failed to fully control it via App. So I cannot recommend Heos or Denon, although they sound really great. I've heard only good from the WiiM but have no first hand experience. My take away from this experience: Don't get a soundbar or smart speaker, choose a dedicated receiver with it's own LCD and buttons... stay away from Apps as much as possible (although I'll need either AirPlay 2 or #qobuzconnect for streaming..

So I have been using #Spotify with #HEOS on my #Marantz SR6015 surround receiver for years, and it's been working flawlessly. Since Spotify is kinda evil and bad we moved to #Tidal instead, which also supports HEOS - either via Tidal Connect or directly from the HEOS app.

About a month in I have discovered that unlike Spotify, my receiver is not super happy about Tidal Connect. Once my receiver crashed outright, but usually it just kinda slowly breaks until playing music on the receiver doesn't work at all and you need to cut the power.

Using the HEOS app to launch Tidal might work better and it even works after Tidal Connect breaks down completely, so I'm inclined to blame Tidal (although it's on the receiver that I need to pull the plug).

All in all, I'm not super satisfied.

I think I am a fan #Qobuz now 😀
Today I bought something and accidentally I noticed that the #heos app has an integration for qobuz. Now I can stream directly to my receiver. The local copy gives me also the freedom of choice how and wherever I want to listen to my music. I f**king love it!

Thanks to @rusty for the hint with qobuz.
And also thanks to @NikTheDusky for his talk at #gpn23 which brought me to #navidrome

It's not even that the devices are asleep, they show up in `avahi-discover` and I can list the info about their advertised abilities. They're just not showing up in the sound UI anymore.

My work laptop (a Mac) is still showing up, even though that's asleep too. 🤷

I've got a couple of HEOS-supporting devices from Denon, which also support AirPlay. I wanted to be able to play audio from my laptop (EndeavourOS; aka Arch, BTW).

As soon as I followed that, my HEOS devices showed up as audio devices in the sound settings. Looks like they vanish when the devices go to sleep though, so I have to figure that out.

I've got a network speaker (a Denon Home 150) that speaks "AirPlay Remote", "AirTunes Remote", "Tidal Connect", "Spotify Connect", "HEOS Audio", and "Qobuz Connect" according to Avahi.

How can I play music on this from Linux?

My music player (Strawberry) doesn't list it or any of those protocols, and I can't set it as an audio device (which is probably a good thing).

Je vais donc continuer avec #Deezer pour le moment, même si l'interaction avec l'ampli via #HEOS n'est pas terrible... Celle de #TIDAL ne fonctionne pas tellement mieux. Et celle de #Qobuz n'existe pas.

Bon... Décision est prise de fuir #Spotify.

Reste à choisir une alternative :
- #Deezer : français sur le papier mais l'actionnaire majoritaire est une holding US ; j'y ai déjà un compte gratuit et pris en charge (depuis peu) par #HEOS, un client #linux et un #headless communautaires sont maintenus. Il n'est jamais cité ici, sans avoir trouvé de grosse controverse.

#Tidal : réputé plus éthique (détenu partiellement par des artistes) mais là aussi holding UK-US. Pris en charge par HEOS.

Ik ontdek net dat mijn #LinuxMint laptop met #Spotify kan streamen over #LAN naar mijn #DenonAVR. Uit gewoonte doe ik dit altijd via de #HEOS app op mijn telefoon.

@larsmb I've been looking for a #sonos replacement too. But I haven't found anything better yet. Looked like the #denon home line (using the #HEOS system) would be a good contender but it turns out it is even worse. Way less features and a broken local library feature (only supports SMB v1 protocol, which is ancient and insecure) so I stick with sonos for now, using the previous app version with auto updates disabled.

TIL that a #heos system has three types of favourites (in addition to a possible favourite of the service user) and only two of them are documented... There is my, heos and the touch-controls on the box. The last one is most useful and exactly the one not documented.

After discovering that #HEOS is pretty useless when it comes to sharing speakers for streaming, it does have a good API for control. So now I'm writing a #go-program to keep three hdmi-splitter-shared speakers in sync, volume wise. Works fine and event-based!

Turns out when its told to play another song it puts that at the beginning as item 1 and the previous song is item 2. If I can hook up to the play command, calling remove_from_queue with an id of 2 will remove it (or fail if it was empty, without consequence).

Now to see if the official #HEOS integration lets me send arbitrary commands or if I am going to need to fork that as well to add queue management capabilities. Bring it on! 😤

BAHAHAHAH. It works! It workssssss! Managed to open a HTTP proxy in the integration and route requests through that instead of the original URL! 🥳

Found an interesting side effect with #heos. Sending the "play_stream" command adds it to the current queue on device. That's fine for the first song, but on the second song it'll go back to the first item in the queue 10 seconds before the song ends, leading to repeats.
