  1. Something causing screenkey to show the keys in a window with titlebar.

When I try to close this window, the app quits.

  2. My distrohopper self returned.

LMDE was pretty good but I wanted a 40+ version of GNOME which isn't available for LMDE 5 and I was impatient, couldn't wait until LMDE 6 release 😂
So I installed Debian 12 with GNOME and some extensions (Dash to Dock, Forge, Bluetooth Quick Connect)

  3. For some reasons, Gnome screensaver under Debian 12 is not more working when LightDM is in use. That was not the case in Debian 11. The only way to have a working screensaver now is running `dm-tool lock`, possibly via a keyboard shortcut. 😞 Is this a bug or a feature?

  4. A propósito, as listras do aquecimento global são meu plano de fundo desde o #Gnome43, e também agora no #Gnome44. Já usei também como fundo para algumas palestras nos últimos vários meses.

  5. #Gnome43 on #Fedora 37 is simply amazing. Absolutely stunning user interface.
I remember installing Fedora 8 way back in 2008 which was great then but #linux has come such a long way since then,

Idee?

  7. ‘Folder Color’ Tool Add Support for Ubuntu 22.10

You’re probably already familiar with Folder Color, a terrifically nifty tool that makes it easy to change the colour of folder icons in Nautilus. Well, I’ve some good news: it recently added support for Ubuntu 22.10 and GNOME 43. This means you can continue to change the colour of any folder in Nautilus, as well as badge folders with a selection of emblems. If you’ve used the tool in earlier versions of Ubuntu and Nautilus nothing has changed: right-click on any folder in the file manager and page into the ‘folder color’ menu, and pick a hue from the list :sys_more_orange:

  8. ‘Compact Quick Settings’ Puts GNOME’s New Menu on a Size Diet

I highlight a new GNOME extension for GNOME 43 that reduces the width of the new Quick Settings Menu. It uses a single column of interactive pods.

  9. Every Gnome release breaks things for one or several most popular and need users' use cases.
This is not how one makes a popular project.
This time we have no way of choosing sound input device quickly except deep in settings.

Gnome developers need to understand that popular extensions are part of users' experience that is tied to Gnome's user experience.

That's it. If extension breaks users blame Gnome.

  10. Gnome 43 has ruined it. This thing Gnome developers do almost every time.
    1. Break things for one of the most popular extension that solves an important user's UX issue.
    2. Provide their own solution that doesn't do the job well.
    3. Don't bother about ensuring the broken extension work.
    4. Release the new version ruining User Experience.
    5. Make excuses about there is no extensions API, extensions are on their own.

  13. New Extension Adds Notifications, Media Controls & Media Streams to GNOME Quick Settings

A new GNOME extension allows you to tweak the layout, appearance, and functionality of the new Quick Settings menu in GNOME 43. I wrote about a similar-ish GNOME extension last week that let you remove buttons from showing up in Quick Settings. The author of that extension is back with a new add-on that can that too plus a whole lot more. The ‘Quick Settings Tweaker’ extension installed on Ubuntu 22.10 (or another distro that uses GNOME 43) lets you: Show notifications in Quick Settings menu Show media controller in Quick Settings menu Show per-app audio stream volume sliders Choose :sys_more_orange:

  27. Why Ubuntu 22.10 May Disable GNOME’s New ‘Device Security’ Panel By Default

Among the many GNOME 43 features is a new device security panel that informs users about the security status of their device. But users of Ubuntu 22.10 may be unable able to see it. A bug report filed by Ubuntu developers this weekend describes the new device security feature as “confusing and unhelpful” in its current incarnation. “A default Ubuntu install only gets us “Security Level 1”. The highest level is “Security Level 3”. There isn’t anything an Ubuntu user can do to get to a higher security level from the Device Security screen,” the bug report reads. “If a :sys_more_orange:

  28. Nautilus 43 Beta Arrives in Ubuntu 22.10 Daily Builds

Nautilus 43 beta has arrived in the latest daily builds of Ubuntu 22.10 “Kinetic Kudu”. “And?”, you quizzically quip. Well, it’s not that big of a deal. However, I was eager to see ‘what the plan was’ for GTK4/libadwaita apps within the context of Ubuntu’s Yaru theme. Ubuntu 22.04, for those who’ve forgotten, intentionally held back on shipping a number of GTK4/libadwaita ports that were part of GNOME 42 — Nautilus among them. Well, I’m pleased to see (and say) that the new-look GTK4/libadwaita version of the Nautilus file manager sits proud within Ubuntu’s Yaru-themed desktop. Any custom Yaru accent :sys_more_orange:
