I remember discussions about US subsidies for CCS as far back as 2003 - accompanied by promises that this was THE SOLUTION. The technology for carbon capture is much older. And it still is not "mature" as a means of addressing #ClimateChange. Why do governments keep wasting money on this? None of the projects have delivered as promised.

1) Grateful to #CalMatters for their coverage of this profiteering by the #FossilFool majors

2) A reminder that #profiteering only works with essential goods & services. That's why #Chevron et al con do so with near impunity. AND if we were powering mobility, from e-scooters to trains, with electricity from #renewables (wind, water, solar (#WWS) and advanced geothermal, we wouldn't be totally dependent on #FossilFuel. And profiteering would be harder to do.

Guess what? We have the technology to convert. Why do we let the FossilFools stop that conversion?

So Speak4 uses AI and apparently the names of real people to send comment letters. And "Speak4 was hired by the Bay Area Council – whose membership includes the Western States Petroleum Association, Chevron, and the Martinez Refinery Company."

There's a simple solution - treat any comments purporting to support the #FossilFool positions as bogus, astroturfed fakes unless proven otherwise.

And maybe investigate charges of identity theft against Speak4 principles?

I'd probably be able to read a more complete account of how #AlboMP is being a #FossilFool there.

The observation: "Gee, look at how #ClimateChange has resulted in incredibly damaging severe weather all across the world. It's disturbing that this is happening faster than so many of us expected."

The #BigBusiness response: " Oh, sorry - we didn't realize we couldn't make our share price targets if we actually changed our business to reduce #GHGs and other environmental impacts. So we'll have to back off our commitments to be responsible."

Maybe we need strict #regulations and #policies on reducing GHGs? FWIW, regulations level the playing field - they switch the competitive advantage of not taking #ClimateAction to a disadvantage (and might actually encourage creativity in the marketplace)

What makes a theory more probable is the weight of supporting evidence (not how many people believe it or not). Without a reasonable amount of converging evidence the "theory" is at best speculation.
