  1. @anirvan
    1) Grateful to #CalMatters for their coverage of this profiteering by the #FossilFool majors

    2) A reminder that #profiteering only works with essential goods & services. That's why #Chevron et al con do so with near impunity. AND if we were powering mobility, from e-scooters to trains, with electricity from #renewables (wind, water, solar (#WWS) and advanced geothermal, we wouldn't be totally dependent on #FossilFuel. And profiteering would be harder to do.

Guess what? We have the technology to convert. Why do we let the FossilFools stop that conversion?

The real case for #PowerToThePeople by renewables.

Two California lawmakers want to change that. “Two California lawmakers are trying to open up legislative documents that are technically public records, but difficult for even the most seasoned Capitol insiders to access. Racial bias can show it's ugly head in unlikely places, but progressive journalism needs to have a better response when they screw up like this

  20. This is the power of nonprofit investigative journalism.

Cal Matters documents case after case where driver's licenses were renewed after the driver caused (some times repeatedly) fatalities.

  22. State of #California collected $1.33 million via towed #CarAuctions in 2023. This was after tow yards raked out their $500 towing fees, $2500 a month storage bill$ etc before the #auctions.

Few towed car owners know they could've received excess fund$ from the sales of their cars that oft eventually go to #CHP in arcane schema when no owner inquires...

#FOIA requests were refused to #CalMatters when they inquired about numbers and proceeds, as the cities, state and counties involved apptly prefer the #profits of the arcane confiscation process be confusing to track and obfuscated from public view...
