  1. As it's #Fingerpost Friday, #TodaysWalk took me across the Old Kent Road, where an ancient example, painted with the logo-before-last of Southwark Council, points to the Livesey Museum which hasn't been open for seventeen years, and the Bird-in-Bush Community Centre, which is now "Old Kent Road Nursery and Pre-School (formerly Bird in Bush)".

In Peckham, I found Spring Tide Close, a nod to a flood-plain heritage which, being behind the police station, is currently used for parking their wagons.

  2. Known for over 200 years as "Brokken" Bridge, this signpost is clearly some modern abomination as it uses metres instead of yards.

    - got my food shopping delivery before lunchtime

    - rang social services about the house. I'm too late, they've already started. On the plus side, this relieves me of having to go up to sort stuff out myself

    - went for a short walk. I got caught in the rain, despite checking my weather app but I sheltered under a bridge for a minute and finished without getting too wet.

  9. There is some stunning #mostodon action on the dry stone walls and the sun has blessed us. We head out on Cam Gill road which is very pretty, if a little bit steep. The #fingerpost suggests a gradient of 1 in 4. No idea what that means in reality, but its inclusion suggests its note worthy.

  10. Path signage here is fantastic & easy to follow. Unusual then to find a sign that had been interfered with - a #fingerpost arm had been reattached pointing the wrong way, the writing upside down was an obvious tell! Also that it clearly should have been pointing back in the direction we’d just come from. Luckily my Swiss Army knife had a Phillips screwdriver! Once a row officer, always a row officer 😁. Glad no one happened upon us, I might’ve had trouble explaining that I was actually fixing it!

  11. Used as reference for a recent work project, this #Fingerpost can be found on the green in #Lurgashall, #WestSussex. (not my photograph) #FingerpostFriday

  12. When I’m passing a crossroads called ‘Five Lanes’ of course I’m going to count the lanes! Just four on the #Fingerpost…but here’s no.5 🤔.

Not just me that’s noticed…there’s already an application to add it to the definitive map of #PublicRightsOfWay. Maybe one day there will be five sign arms.

Not the access issue mentioned in my previous toot btw, I was just passing & curious 🧐

  13. I got off the train at Grove Park Station and immediately saw signs for the #CapitalRing walk. There is also a wonderful Railway Children mural. The book’s author Edith Nesbit lived in the area, and the location is thought to be inspired by her walks to Grove Park nature reserve.
