#TodaysWalk turned out to be to Lewisham, expectedly via Catford and Sydenham and Forest Hill but unexpectedly via Crofton Park, which is really Brockley and not a park and nowhere near anywhere called Crofton. The area is, however, dotted with many streets (e.g Elsiemaud) that echo the geneaology of a land surveyor, and it's possible he was busier than his lawful relations understood.

Whatever it is, it currently boasts a celebratory spruce, as pictured, which is something.

#TodaysWalk was to Brixton by way of the fancy bits of Dulwich where neither inflated carrots nor superflu have yet defeated Christmas mania.

Coincidentally, I also saw my first deflated Santa of the season. I can't be sure it was the work of a cat, but there aren't many other animals here that are quite so discerning..

#TodaysWalk was to Croydon, to see how the redevelopment of St George's Walk had progressed since it started in 2018.

It's amazing what can't happen in seven years, but at least it was sunny.

Although their trees are smaller than some (the one at Vauxhall bus station springs unbidden to mind) and arguably less elegant, quantity clearly wins out in the minds of the Pengeoisie, who proudly display a whole two of them, not far from the Millennium Rock (which, though it sounds like it might be a venue, is more in the way of a rock).

#TodaysWalk was to the South Norwood Country Park by way of Crystal Palace.

As Crystal Palace is famous for its Transmitter Tower so the South Norwood Country Park is famous for its observation mound of which it's rumoured that, on a clear day, you can't see the fog.

I also remembered to visit the lake, which also isn't obviously visible, and found a fungus to look at. And so, despite my best intentions, the day wasn't entirely wasted.

#TodaysWalk didn't happen, as I've been indoors with Covid since last Tuesday. But here, as a memento of that happier time, is yet another contender for #BollardOfTheWeek

#TodaysWalk took me to Crystal Palace Park, which is being refurbished in some way or another, to see the bust of Joseph Paxton, who invented the banana.

#TodaysWalk was to Deptford Creek, which has never been mistaken for the Danube.

#TodaysWalk was to Elf Row, in the Shadwell district of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, because there's nothing more cheerful than Bin Day in the Hamlets.

Elf Row wasn't worth the journey but on the way I got menaced by a goose and found a pair of illuminated bollards, so I can thank my stars that I'm not, in relative terms, easily disappointed.

#TodaysWalk was an unusually sunny jaunt around Sydenham, from which I concluded that Pissarro didn't paint on bin-days.

Despite an untroubled night #TodaysWalk took me to Penge, a suburb that once lent its name to a Limpopo asbestos mine* solely on account of its appearance.

I wandered past the Bromley Millennium Rock, through the abandoned bus station and, sticking my nose through a fence, took in the sight of St John's church which has, I've read, nice corbels and neatly contrasting drainpipes.

But beyond it was the Crystal Palace Transmitter Tower and I can't resist temptation.

#TodaysWalk was to Bromley, so here's a picture from yesterday's walk of the odd clock on Bracken House in the Vintry Ward of the City of London.

The angle isn't very helpful, but I reckon the hour dial is running about eight minute slow and the minute dial's behind by twenty minutes (or a less-likely forty minutes ahead). Which, I guess, just goes to show that money can't buy everything, and especially not time.
