  1. Salt and Dunes

Photographer Barbara Brown captured these striking aerial views in Namibia. Coastal dunes and saltworks feature in the photos from Walvis Bay, where wind, waves, evaporation, and humankind have shaped the landscape. The colorful and dendritic dune images come from Sossusvlei, where the ephemeral Tsauchab River ends in the Namib Desert. Recent flooding left its mark on the dry landscape. (Image credit: B. 3.

  6. Yellow dune (Deserts 🏜️)

Yellow dunes are sand dunes that develop after the first set of embryo dunes appear. They have an average depth of about 5m and are composed primarily of sand. They are so named because their lack of humus gives them a yellow color. The percentage of exposed sand on these dunes is generally about 20%. The remaining 80% is covered with vegetation that cannot withstand the conditions on the embryo ...

  10. I think this was done before, but a modern and extensive mapping of the world's dunes is still welcomed (most are in N. Africa, Central Asia, Australis and Arabia, unsurprising).
