Ready to go places!

What I really want is to share these pieces with people. They are so much more interesting in person - photography just doesn’t capture the light adequately. If you know of a venue that might be interested in hosting these pieces or open calls for art that has an appropriate theme, I’d love to hear about it (especially in the greater Chicago region)!

Aren't the swirls of this cribriform plate beautiful! And also makes it tricky to print, lol. The cribriform plate is the interface between the brain and back of the nose where the olfactory receptors are located. I've got plans to build some LEDs into this piece so stay tuned!

This was an experiment with vinegar and salt patina on bronze. It’s interesting, but it didn’t turn out how I expected. The oxidation does have a lovely sparkle though! Should I keep it this way or return it to its original bronze luster?

All it took was soldering the LED and attaching the eye and it is finished! More to come soon, but I couldn’t resist posting a little teaser. Stay tuned!

I’ve been working on this piece for months and finally all the parts are finished and ready to assemble! I went through several test prints and previous iterations and learned a lot on the way!

I learned how to use an Arduino, and soldered the electronics! Learned more about precise CAD design for 3D printing and techniques for finishing 3D prints! And how to laser engrave cleanly!

A concept for my #ExtraCTSkullpture project visualized on #Blender3D. Inspired by architect Paolo Soleri’s sand cast metal tiles, though his bells are more widely known. He pressed various shapes and patterns into the sand before casting. Here, I simulated what similar tiles might look like if various parts of an opossum skull were pressed into the mold. Learning to work with hot metals is on my to-learn list along side metal electroplating.
