Round two with the vinegar and salt patina! This time, I experimented with a copper and PLA composite substrate instead of bronze composite. The results are fascinating - I got not one, but three distinct patina phases! There's the familiar turquoise from the bronze, joined by a lighter turquoise in one of the basins, and a truly stunning, vibrant lapis blue! Can't wait to see how much further I can take this!

Experimenting with hot patina on a 3D printed beaver tooth! This is printed in bronze & PLA composite, heated with a torch, and treated with copper nitrate. While some melting occurred, the effect is quite interesting!

Aren't the swirls of this cribriform plate beautiful! And also makes it tricky to print, lol. The cribriform plate is the interface between the brain and back of the nose where the olfactory receptors are located. I've got plans to build some LEDs into this piece so stay tuned!

This was an experiment with vinegar and salt patina on bronze. It’s interesting, but it didn’t turn out how I expected. The oxidation does have a lovely sparkle though! Should I keep it this way or return it to its original bronze luster?

I’ve been wanting to experiment with Protopasta’s bronze filament for a long time now! This is a scaled up unerupted fourth molar from an opossum. At first I was hoping the layer lines wouldn’t show, but as I was polishing the model, the look grew on me. What do you think, are the layer lines distracting or do they make the topology more interesting?

Loving these material mashups! This one uses Hatchbox’s wood filament and Prusament’s PLA Marble. The natural materials work so well together, but the wood filament definitely needs more of wood grain modeled into it to look convincing.
Do you enjoy seeing these little experiments?
