What if this old mall were reused as a hodge-podge of little shops and businesses, an incubator of odd ideas that might make it big, a place for experiments in sustainable commerce, ...

A bit like Pike Place Market in Seattle, or Thornes Marketplace in Northampton, MA.

We could call it the #Emporatorium, to match the #Exploratorium.

I remember the Exploritorium from when it was located at the Palace of Fine Arts but had since forgotten about it but I'm glad to be reminded that it still exists.

Just took my 2 grandkids & my DIL to the Bay Area Discovery Museum (BADM) this past weekend and look forward to taking them to the Exploritorium the next time we go out together.

However, I'm just wondering who (except the well-healed) can afford to take their (grand)kids to such places. It cost me around $80 for tickets for the 4 of us to get into the BADM and the Exploritorium wants to charge us (me, actually) $130 for the same privilege.

I didn't see any poor folks at the BADM (only young Gen Y & X parents with their kids) nor do I expect to see any at the Exploratorium.

I hope they offer free (or at least discounted tixs) to those who can't afford to pay the regular price of admission for their (grand)kids to enjoy the experinece at this "educational" venues.

#Exploratorium was a fun trip today. It’s been since before #COVID that we visited. I’m glad we did the 10-12 members only time, since it got super crowded after lunch. NO masks. Yuk. And we were tired by then so we didn’t stay much longer. Good outing.

Son was much more #focused on #exhibits and #dwelled on many. He’s getting into #biology so we spent more time in that area. Will definitely be back again.
