Wildfire in progress near Mt Diablo. Went from just two acres to 125 acres in size pretty rapidly and is growing. Hope it is contained soon and doesn’t damage the park. Wondering how it started and by who(m).

Just got back home to Oakland California yesterday after a little over 2 weeks vacation in Naxos Greece 🇬🇷, London UK 🇬🇧, and Paris France 🇫🇷 (partly a work trip for my partner).
Besides the heatwave it was refreshing to enjoy walkable cities with reliable public transit and actual night life (all of which go hand-in-hand).
🚧 I'm constantly depressed by the Bay Area's awful infrastructure and limited nightlife. On Sun Jun 21 it took over an hour to get home from a concern in SF because of bridge lane closures for construction — We drove because of limited/slow public transit options, assuming traffic would be lite on Sunday (wrong).

Another one of San Jose mayor Matt Mahan's success stories in combatting homelessness.
AND a shining example of what it is like to live in a county with the highest number of billionaires in the USA. They don't do shit to help anyone but themselves, and in fact, they actively make things worse.
At least the thick network of Flock cameras will allow the police to constantly harass this person.
This is America, this is the generosity and concern of billionaires and trickle-down economics. This is the future coming to your neighborhood...

Taken from the "Rails to San Francisco Bay" by Harre W. Demoro & Vernon J. Sappers (Quadrant Press, New York, 1991), this here photo depicts commuters browsing through pulp magazines available on the newsstand aboard the Piedmont (bay ferry long-since scuppered). Dates from the mid-1930s, apparently - I could pinpoint it by sourcing all the individual magazine issues, but don’t have the time or energy.
