  6. @janl hehe .. well here I think the “good news” is that there is plenty of money for this. the problem is that this money currently is send to Redmond. the other issue is that public sector procurement policies are not build enough around the idea of public goods.

even the swiss law #EMBAG that mandates open source for public sector procurement only applies to custom development, not for funding the development of open source so that no licenses have to be paid by anyone.

  7. What is the best way to learn about the practical implications of #EMBAG in #Switzerland. Public Money, Public Code.

    I am in #Bern now.

  8. EMBAG/LMETA does not make open geodata: The #EMBAG or #LMETA, a Swiss federal law enacted at the start of 2024 mandates #OpenData. But there seems to be a confusion about its effects on geoinformation.

  12. A five-month piece of iterative work with many specialists at MeteoSwiss went live today: meteoswiss.admin.ch/services-a

This marks the start of the public review of the weather and climate data that MeteoSwiss will provide as to implement the 'Open by default' guideline of the new law.

Try out the sample data that are available on GitHub. Are they easy to use? And the metadata easy to understand? What is missing? What could be improved?
