  1. 📉📈 Ah, the age-old tale of why internet speeds in America are slower than a sloth on a lazy Sunday while Switzerland is surfing the web at warp speed. Spoiler alert: it's not because Swiss cows have faster hooves! 🐄💨 But hey, who needs speed when you can pay more for less? #Capitalism FTW! 😂

  3. The WEF forecasts that 42% of core job skills could change by 2030. I don't know how accurate that is - but AI is certainly disruptive, and it's hard to predict exactly where this leads.

Understanding the shape of the gap is a starting point. Part 3 of this series looks at the economics. Posting next week.

  5. Kodak invented the digital camera. They had the technology before anyone else.

But they couldn't see how it would disrupt their own business model - and by the time they did, it was too late.

This is one of three ways the exponential gap plays out: individuals, organisations, and legislation all get left behind in different ways.

Which of the three worries you most? ctnet.co.uk/technology-outpaci

  11. SUMMARY - Revisiting the digital divide in Europe: The profile of those on the wrong side of the divide

    isoclive.substack.com/p/europe

New European Social Survey Round 10 analysis: Europe's access divide still tops 10% — over a quarter of Portugal offline. The typical excluded European is older, less educated, rural and isolated.

  14. "As AI agents become more integrated into the economy, companies and entities that deploy them will benefit disproportionately compared to those that cannot, Nick Srnicek, a senior lecturer in digital economy at King’s College London, told Rest of World.

“We will see new inequalities of access, scale, quality and trust: divides between those who have agents and those who don’t; those who have good agents and those who have bad agents; those who have many agents and those who have few agents; and those who can trust their agents and those who cannot,” he said.

Having access to agents that outpace others means “the outcomes of negotiations and transactions will be structurally biased towards those with greater access,” Srnicek said. “Agentic inequality can harden into systems of dominance.”

AI-powered agents and robots could generate about $2.9 trillion in economic value per year in the U.S. by 2030, McKinsey said in a report last year: “Work in the future will be a partnership between people, agents, and robots — all powered by AI.”"

Search engines can't see Mohawk. Why? They assume meaning lives in separate words. In polysynthetic languages, one word IS the sentence.

The fix: nested semantic graphs—language-neutral meaning trees. The same ultrametric structure appears across physics, biology, and cognition.

  22. "Since late February 2026, a 40-day military confrontation between Iran, the United States, and Israel has unfolded across the region, following an initial wave of airstrikes that set in motion a cycle of retaliation and broader regional spillovers. The focus, unsurprisingly, has been on security and geopolitics. But the conflict also reshaped something less visible: the infrastructures that sustain connectivity.

At approximately midday on 28 February, global internet access in Iran was effectively cut off for most users. Not entirely, and not for all. What followed was not simply a condition of disconnection, but a reorganisation of the network itself into a layered system in which connectivity was differentially mediated through infrastructural constraints, economic mechanisms, and institutional gatekeeping.

This analysis is based on ten in-depth interviews with business owners, technical operators, and everyday internet users in Iran, conducted during and immediately after the recent conflict. These interviews are complemented by participant observation of connectivity practices, pricing dynamics, and user behavior under conditions of disruption. While not exhaustive, the findings provide a grounded view of how internet governance operates in practice under crisis conditions."

  33. IMO Amnesty International is perpetrating discrimination of the users of Twibright Links lightweight web browser not equipped with JavaScript and IMO Amnesty International are hypocrites: they pose as if fighting for human rights, but they themselves IMO perpetrate discrimination and censorship and Amnesty International IMO violates the basic human right to receive information.

    I recommend:
    1) Don't send Amnesty International any donations.
    2) Tell other people about the behaviour of Amnesty International.
    3) Boycott Amnesty International.

Their website consists of a grid of pictures and text. You don't need JavaScript to display that and even if you did, lack of JavaScript would just mean reduced functionality, not blocking of whole website.

This may IMO impact marginalized individuals (people living in poverty, people in developing countries, refugees, dissidents) who cannot afford to buy a powerful device with enough RAM (cf. recent RAM price crisis) to run a resource hungry web browser with JavaScript and exacerbate the digital divide.

IMO Amnesty International is joining the camp of perpetrators of digitalitarian digitatorship, where citizens are required to submit to an ever increasing amount of surveillance and tracking and required to submit to an extortion to purchase ever more expensive electronic devices.

    I feel

    s t r o n g c o n t e m p t

    towards Amnesty International.
