The Game Is Over
I ended a campaign yesterday, one that I had been running in one form or another for about 14 months. It’s perhaps not at the standard of epic long-runners that people will write about specifically due to endurance, but it is the longest single campaign I’ve ever run. And, as I’ve alluded to here before, it’s a doozy. I ran 26 sessions across two different systems, including one arc of pre-play. The game started in Apocalypse World: Burned Over, where we ran five sessions using the […] -

#DIERPG, I think, warrants a closer look. Our campaign folded partway through as our GM and players struggled to come to terms with the setting, and one of our players left. There’s a lot of fodder for a long and maybe (if you’re not careful) harrowing campaign. I think of it, perhaps, as TORG for grown-ups… with baggage and regrets.
And that about wraps it up. May your dice roll well in the new year!

CW: RPG a Day 2023 4)
For today's #RPGaDay2023, I will tell you about #DIERPG by @[email protected] and Stephanie Hans. I got this game form Black Lion Games, in Edinburgh, as I have been doing for the last year or so (great store and the owner is always happy to discuss all things #TTRPG and #boardgames).
So, DIE, the game. As the name implies, there is also a DIE (something else), something else being a comic. In the comic, a group of adults that used to play an RPG when they were teenagers gather again to play one last session. When they played last time, they ended up disappearing into the game itself and one of their friends is still there. Another detail is that when they were transported into the game, they changed into the classes they were going to play. I won't spoil anything else, but I will say that each class uses a unique die and each class is a nice twist in the classic DnD ones.
DIE, the game, is a game where a bunch of Personas (real-world people, even the DM has one) gather to play a game, are transported into a strange land and they confront their inner problems there, until they reach a climax.
Among the things I like is that the rulebook provides guidance on short campaigns (2-4 sessions), one shots and long campaigns, with different tweaks for the Paragons (the classes the Personas are changed to). It is also very ritualistic, as an RPG should be.
What I don't like is that I bought it the other day and I still haven't a chance to play it. But soon... hopefully... -

My copy of the #DIERPG manual arrived a few weeks ago and it looks wonderful -- great job to @kierongillen and the team.
So I'm a bit late on this, but I've finally updated my DIE Combat Assistant web tool. Version 2 features several interface improvements and, most notably, updates the character profiles and the rules for determining turn order to match what's in the new manual.
Check it out at: https://die.triskaideka.net/

Got my #DieRPG kit from its crowdfunding and gaaaaaah Stephanie Hans’ art is so fantastic! I’ll have to figure out how and when to run this; the short campaign it’s originally designed for is right up my alley these days.
(If you’ve not read the Die comic series, it’s also excellent and is both the proto-demo-campaign and the origin story.) #ttrpg

#dierpg has finally arrived. Along with the resin die set, this is a beautiful package. #kickstarter projects can be frustrating sometimes but this one has been well worth the wait. #rpg @kierongillen has made something very special here.
