  1. The fantastic life of "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" as told by the Financial Times. Hu Nu? Dolly, Bernie, Marlene...
All inspired by a poem in a novel by Shokholov. The songwriter had testified before Congress' HUAC that August (House Un-American Committee, the Red Scare). Later, he gave 20% of its royalties to a camp counselor who wrote a couple more verses... just fantastic stuff.

  2. The painting is nearly 150 years old, but the scene it depicts is familiar: A group of fierce #Cossack warriors sit at a table surrounding a man acting as their scribe.

  3. "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" is a #folkSong written by American singer-songwriter #PeteSeeger in 1955. Inspired lyrically by the traditional #Cossack folk song "Koloda-Duda", Seeger borrowed an Irish melody for the music, and published the first three verses in #SingOut magazine. Additional verses were added in May 1960 by #JoeHickerson, who turned it into a circular song. Its rhetorical "where?" and meditation on death place the song in the #ubiSunt tradition.

  5. 'Everyone was wondering where the counter offensive would begin - would it be in the south of #Ukraine or in the east of Ukraine, but it turned out it started in #Russia so the joke goes. There were #memes in which #prigozhin was described as this #Ukrainian #Cossack with a typical Cossack fringe, they changed his name to Yevhen Prikhozhko to make it sound more Ukrainian.'

  6. @Renegade_GDI Thanks for the explanation – #Cossack identity seems incredibly complex to me!
