  6. Musical Interlude: My parents had this record, I remember, but I don't know if I ever heard them playing it. I didn't discover this song until recently, and it's kinda nice.

  7. The fantastic life of "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" as told by the Financial Times. Hu Nu? Dolly, Bernie, Marlene...
All inspired by a poem in a novel by Shokholov. The songwriter had testified before Congress' HUAC that August (House Un-American Committee, the Red Scare). Later, he gave 20% of its royalties to a camp counselor who wrote a couple more verses... just fantastic stuff.

    This time tomorrow
    Reckon where I'll be
    Down in some lonesome valley
Hangin' from a white oak tree
Hang down your head Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you're bound to die

Dashing And Daring, A Drink He Was Sharing
With Wicked Felina, The Girl That I Loved
So In Anger I Challenged His Right For The Love Of This Maiden
Down Went His Hand For The Gun That He Wore
My Challenge Was Answered In Less Than A Heartbeat
The Handsome Young Stranger Lay Dead On The Floor

    Some people say I'm a no-'count
    Others say I'm no good
    But I'm just
    a natural-born travelin' man
Doin' what I think I should
    And I don't give a damn (hoot)
    about a greenback dollar💵
Spend it fast as I can
    For a wailin' song & a good 🎸
The only things that I understand
