  1. #WordWeavers 2/7 MC POV: What are you angry about?

Tarragon: I'm a teenager. Angry about a lot of things. Or rather, I'm angsty about a lot. What truly ignites a fire in me is injustice. They say I'm naïve, but I think they've lost their wonder; settled into the complacency of monotony and routine. I'm smarter than they assume me to be, and I will see to it someday that everyone is treated fairly in #Çatura

  2. #Wordweavers Day 4 - How would you describe your MC’s lifestyle?

Tarragon is a student, living the boarding school student dream. Except her father is the headmaster and her mother is a teacher with more secrets than answers. She's not into drinking or rebelling against authority, she's just doing her best to pass her final exams without aiding in a hostile takeover of her country.

  3. #WordWeavers 2/2 Do any of your characters have creative jobs?

Geeta forages for resources to sell at the markets for a living. She can weave baskets, assemble wind chimes, and throw pottery. For winter solstice she created adorable little moss yule lad troll figurines.

  4. #WordWeavers 31/01 asks if there's anything that would warm our antagonist's heart.

Izanme and Izanya are quite the sentimental pair. It would warm them to come into possession of something which had belonged to one of their relatives or from their own childhood. They do part with things easily.

  5. #PennedPossibilities 571 /2 — What or who motivates your antagonist / villain to act the way they do? Could a new motivator convince them to change?

Izanya and Izanme Rajidka are fraternal twins. They believe they are entitled to the monarch by birthright and their ancestor was unfairly stripped of the crown by the Kobör family, whom they are indebted to serve now. They are willing to reclaim power by any means necessary and nothing will change their mind.

  6. #WordWeavers Jan 28. Did any specific world history inspire parts of your story?

Not quite. #Çatura is my personal childhood paracosm. Growing up, dad would watch the 6 o'clock news and I would hear it in the background in my imagination.
I imagined a world where there weren't wars, hunger, greed, or hate. No bombers, cult compounds, or weaponized planes.

  7. #PennedPossibilities 570. When your MC is in a tough situation, do they use their words or their actions to get them out of it?

Twelve year old Tarragon would like to use words to get her out of a tough spot with the adult antagonists, but she just isn't that cunning, yet. Her strength is knowing when to act, when to lay low, and learning to discern who to trust.

  8. #PennedPossibilities 567 — SC POV: Tell us about a time you said “no” as a child.

Aíbinn: They told me I had to end my formal education, my hands were needed on the farm.
Talli used to tell me stories of a land of old, an ancient magic lost, and a people beyond the cursed borders. When the barn burned one night, I had to flee. Maybe the fire wasn't my fault- I didn't wait to know.
Talli caught me just over the borders. She helped me find a new home. I would finish my education in #Çatura

  9. #WordWeavers When shopping, what does your MC look for?

Tarragon is a young teen. She likes flashy cheap jewelry, a new brightly colored pinafore, books, and oddities.

  10. #WordWeavers Jan 24: What about your antagonist [tradition vs change]?

Izanya and Izanme want a change, of sorts. They want to right the wrong they perceived happened to their ancestor; send the nations back to the traditionalist ways of old, back when there were class hierarchies and people knew their place.
Tarragon (MC) accidentally helps them on their quest for stolen power, now she must work to stop them before it's too late.

  11. #PennedPossibilities #Writing 565 What would your MC’s go-to song at a party be? Would they be dancing?

Something swing or jazz. Josephine Baker is a favorite of my MC.
My WIP has kind of a steampunk-esque feel to it. The world we live in surrounds this magical nation, oblivious to its existence.
Tarragon's mentor Geeta crossed the cursed borders from our world into theirs and brought a phonograph with her. Tarragon does indeed dance.

  12. #WordWeavers 19: How honest is your MC when honesty will get them into trouble?

Honesty is not a quality that makes Tarragon likable as an MC. She lies, she has her own agenda, but she is trying to do what she believes is best. She's relatable because we all lie at times.

  13. #PennedPossibilities Your MC has exactly two hours to do something with a small amount of currency in their world. How are they spending the time and money?

Tarragon is obviously going to rush to the Ancora market with any bit of cash. She's thirteen and any trendy bit of clothing, jewelry, candy, or accessories is going to catch her eye.
    #Çatura

  14. #WordWeavers #writing What's the biggest threat your world is facing?

Their country's government being bought out and taken over by greedy elitists merely seeking personal gain through the corruption of power to benefit only themselves and their elitist friends...
Oh, was this question supposed to be about my WIP? Same threat goes for #Çatura.

  15. #PennedPossibilities #writing 550 — Where does your MC feel most safe?

Tarragon feels most safe inside Burnerry Magical Institue, of course. It's where her parents work and where she has lived for most of her 12 years of life. She knows its corridors, towers, and back passages like the back of her hand.

  16. #PennedPossibilities 549: Did your SC ever feel as though their innocence had been lost?

Geeta just wanted to do good, she believed she was helping to make a difference in her community.
Tragedy struck; someone died. Maybe it was coincidence, maybe it was her careless mistake. She wouldn't wait to learn the truth, if everyone was going to blame her anyway, she would have to flee her community forever.
Yeah, Geeta lost her innocence that day.

  17. #WordWeavers 12/31: Do your characters celebrate any form of a year ending/beginning?

Yes. Samhain is the start of the new year in Çatura. They reflect upon their last year and make goals for the next year ahead. Most importantly, they begin preparations for the Yule celebration on the solstice.

  18. #PennedPossibilities #writing 12/31 What is something that makes your favorite WIP character stand out, and why do you love them so much?

Geeta is Tarragon's mentor. She is wise and highly intelligent, but others wouldn't know it unless she wants them to know. She comes across as aloof; deadpans her jokes like she wasn't trying to be funny, but she is.
I'll tell you all a secret- Geeta is queer, but that will never be mentioned in the text. I love her because she is who I strive to be.
