Changed the rear brake pads on the #CrossGolf. Bit of a struggle getting the low profile bolts off on one side. Someone had already tried and mangled them and either given up or put the mangled ones back (they cost cents, grr).
Disc is fine. Guide rods lubed (they needed it).
But there's also some problem with the handbrake not 100% releasing pressure on the piston. Which, after some research, appears to be a common Volkswagen problem with those calipers where the lever/shaft on the rear gets stuck with rust.
So either rebuild the caliper (need at least a super deep locking ring pliers and seal kit) or just buy new caliper (aftermarket not nearly as expensive as I thought).
And a bleed kit (or cowboy it).
Grumble.

I might try to dip back into #Everspace even tho it crashed on me as I finished the first sector, but before the achieve popped which is never a good look for a game, even if it's a roguelike. -

I found the instruction sheet for a manual #caliper and it has this picture in it. In Italian it says something like "Drawing centers". Does anyone know what they mean by it? Am I about to unlock a new way to use a caliper?

Today's oddity: showed an actual degreed and employed #engineer how to use a cheap #Vernier #caliper to get accurate measurements down to 0.1mm.
Caveats: engineer is much younger than me, this was an old-school caliper without a dial or digital readout, their primarily field is fluid dynamics (so not a lot of calipers). And they understood the idea quickly.
But now I'm wondering this person would panic at the sight of a #slideRule. Tempting to throw one in the bag "just in case."
