  1. No, MS Teams, "In öffnen Browser" is not valid German.

To save me from this in the future, I just switched Teams back to English.

I'd like to remove this workaround and do not use Teams at all but this is not possible (yet?).

  9. I got an email and thought jfc not another tariff. But it was just a bad translation. It's an update of their fees/charges.
    Subject line:
"Mise à jour tarifaire / Tariff update"

  14. Why relying on translation and not on context is the wrong way to learn a language, episode 2684259986.

Me: Student, what does "vacant" mean?
    Student: Uh... Sky?

This happened yesterday. I did laugh. I usually try not to laugh at my students, but it just came out, I couldn't control it.

  18. I love the bad automatic translators my students use when they write their emails to me. I still haven't figured out which one it is, probably a Japanese one. Does LINE have an automatic translator?

In any case, this one is a first:

" I'm sorry for the inconvenience caused by our convenience."

    🤷‍♂️

  22. Mountain With a Big Room.
This is the Mount Omuro (Omuroyama, or 大室山), which can literally be translated to "big room mountain" (but shouldn’t… Because it actually just means "a big-ass mountain", according to a random person on the internet: baba72885.exblog.jp/12610236/).
Anyway, this mountain is shaped like a cone and has quite some room inside so big room it is.

  26. CW: Scymraeg / Bad Translation

Bach yn anodd darllen, ond enghraifft dda o gyfieithiad sy’n dweud y gwrthwyneb i’r Saesneg wreiddiol. Bwrdd gwybodaeth bywyd gwyllt wrth Afon Rheidiol, Aberystwyth.

Again, this probably seems trivial, but surely bilingualism means I shouldn’t have to read the English to get accurate information.
