I told him I don't do voice modes very much because my voice doesn't match my name. He asked "What do you mean?" I told him that I don't sound like a Juliet and sometimes that makes people cranky.
He said, basically, that sounds like their problem not mine. I appreciated hearing that from an OM.

I mentioned to one of the volunteers at my community theater group that I heard he has a Hawaii call sign and he spent the next hour telling me about how he got his license, working in broadcast TV, growing up in Milwaukee, and some history about my new town.
It went pretty much as expected.
I've been trying so hard to talk to people the last two weeks. It's been difficult but rewarding.

@[email protected] Okay so Millennium Force is 310 feet tall, goes 93 mph and the first drop has an angle of descent of 80 degrees.
Most picket fencing we encounter is two dimensional because it's in cars that don't have elevation changes at any sort of rate that would impact our signal. But taking a ride on MF would absolutely introduce elevation change as well. The first overbanked turn is over 150 feet tall and the second hill, which is at a right angle to the first drop, is about 200 feet.
What would that do to our signal as we rapidly move in three dimensions both toward and away from the receiving station? I imagine we'd see some frequency shift (which is really what picket fencing is, right? Because Doppler effect?) And how would the picket fencing differ between FM and SSB transmissions?
Someone better at math than me should study this.

My father-in-law is talking about unloading his HF radio because "the antenna will be too expensive to get good and right."
I reminded him that I made FT8 contacts from Cleveland, Ohio to New Zealand using $12 of speaker wire and 18awg breadboard wire wrapped around a ferrite bead.

Any DMR hams share their Pi-Star configs anywhere? My SD card died and I didn't have my config backed up so I'm looking for some inspiration for creative setups!
I don't like to use Brandmeister because they keep banning all my queer friends, so setups that include FreeDMR and other smaller networks are a huge plus.
