February's #AIActionSummit was like this. Even some of the US commercial talks were about diversity (a term recently banned by Trump) but applied there to "of providers", and similarly resilience.

I'm forcing my way through ver 3 #GPAI #CoP – which actually has improved, but the #AGI stuff is still painful. I saw @samasama.bsky.social at #AIActionSummit say the definition of AGI was meaningless at this stage, but I've heard someone promised Trump AGI would happen in this term. Do we know who?

This is a really weird hatchet job. I have issues with the ATI, but also with the TBI and what it's been doing wrt AI & UK data. More later. But for the record, this takes me out of context. I said the AI Safety narrative was (mostly) transhumanist nonsense, in contrast to the #AIActionSummit.

"Backed by nine governments – including Finland, France, Germany, Chile, India, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Slovenia and Switzerland – as well as an assortment of philanthropic bodies and private companies (including Google and Salesforce, which are listed as “core partners”), Current AI aims to “reshape” the AI landscape by expanding access to high-quality datasets; investing in open source tooling and infrastructure to improve transparency around AI; and measuring its social and environmental impact.

European governments and private companies also partnered to commit around €200bn to AI-related investments, which is currently the largest public-private investment in the world. In the run up to the summit, Macron announced the country would attract €109bn worth of private investment in datacentres and AI projects “in the coming years”.

The summit ended with 61 countries – including France, China, India, Japan, Australia and Canada – signing a Statement on Inclusive and Sustainable Artificial Intelligence for People and the Planet at the AI Action Summit in Paris, which affirmed a number of shared priorities.

This includes promoting AI accessibility to reduce digital divides between rich and developing countries; “ensuring AI is open, inclusive, transparent, ethical, safe, secure and trustworthy, taking into account international frameworks for all”; avoiding market concentrations around the technology; reinforcing international cooperation; making AI sustainable; and encouraging deployments that “positively” shape labour markets.

However, the UK and US governments refused to sign the joint declaration."

I had hope that the UK had seen sense after defecting from the rule of law at the #AIActionSummit, since they (we) did sign up with #ukraine and the EU (and against the US) at the UN. If the US is clearly supporting Putin, why should it rather then Europe help Ukraine develop its mineral wealth? Also, who wants an administration bent on destroying even its own ecosystem's help on something like that?

#Zelenskyy was just right not to tolerate the lies about Biden, Trump 2016-20 Europe, & Russia.

This is what I was trying to tell the UK at the #AIActionSummit. Sometimes there's no "middle way" (could they have made it more obvious who was calling the shots). Treaty signing is a binary. If you don't swing your bat, it's either a ball or a strike anyway, depending on the pitcher.

@timnitGebru The fundamental problem IMO is that the safety narritive is about the machines themselves somehow choosing to be safe, and maybe asking the companies that build them to politely encourage this. Which is why I appreciate that Macron made the action narrative about governments coordinating regulation and building of AI, and talked so much about market concentration.
