@einfachnurRoland Frederike's criticism misses that aspect because the scenario is so wildly unrealistic, not only in detail. Which means no, this is not a "race" like during the Cold War, any parallel to this makes no sense to me. #Europe2031 is a piece of well written fantasy fiction. 🤷

#Europe2031 is a worst-case scenario. I don’t know how realistic it is in detail, but many aspects seem very plausible to me. It also helps me understand to what extent the race between the U.S. and China should be viewed as a new Cold War or an arms race.
Unfortunately, #FrederikeKaltheuner’s criticism misses the point.

Ich kannte das Paper bislang nicht, bin aber froh, es gefunden zu haben. Es ist eine Prognose der Möglichkeit eines Worst-Case-Szenarios. Als solches ist es nicht als Werbung, sondern als Warnung gedacht und leider plausibel.
Die meiste Kritik, die ich bis jetzt gefunden habe, verkennt dies und ist deshalb wohlfeil.

I find the mix between policy and storytelling on one hand very innovative, but on the other hand it crosses some red lines: Commission directors will be unable to spell out an excuse to their staff as they feel bad for misjudgement?
Since when do policy papers employ regret of management as an argument?
@gateklons Yes, but truth or reality doesn't seem to matter in #Europe2031. If you want to convince political majorities today that being against #AI is suspicious, just equate it with political "extremism." The whole thing is more of a #lobbying project for the AI #industry rather than a piece of research.

I don't know if anyone here has read #Europe2031, a made-up #fantasy plot in which physical and environmental boundaries don't exist, #cybersecurity works like in Sandra Bullock's "The Net", and only radical "far-right and far-left populists" can possibly be anti-AI.
The plot could be a B-movie but is sold as foretelling the future if Europe doesn't go "all in" with the #AI tech bros.
It's so bad I feel uncomfortable linking to it.
