  1. What I really want from Fedi is a single home for my identity, an if you will, and all these great services like and and / / / whatever are just clients that are really good at creating/consuming certain types of activities.

Is anyone working on something like this?

  2. @rolle I’ve been thinking about this a fair bit, and I think that this is an opportunity for the #Fediverse; if Facebook wants to build a twitter competitor that interacts with everyone else, great, because we get to show them what social media is like *without* algorithms or ads.

Clearly, "we” won’t put up with Meta ads or tracking of *us*, and I don’t know enough about how #ActivityHub works to know if we can stop/control that behaviour.

"Any time you sign up for a new social app, you won’t have to rebuild your audience or re-find all your friends; your whole following and followers list come with you. Those things should be part of the internet, not part of an app."

  4. Imagine if the browser wars of the late 90s resulted in Netscape and Microsoft each having their own version of HTML protocols. So each new website would have to decide which universe they wanted to be in before designing their site, and could only link to other sites in the same Netscape Internet or the Explorer internet. That's where we are today with social media. It's a hellscape.

Thank goodness for #Mastodon, #Fediverse, and open protocols like #ActivityHub and #OStatus

  5. I am getting the hang of #ActivityHub and also the federated nature of this environment - and I do really like it. Is there (and I am sure there is) a way to visualise the #Fediverse with the various instances and how busy they are - a form of the state of the fediverse?

  6. can I use static GitHub Pages as a ActivityHub server/-ice? I mean, statically serving the right JSON files, like static RSS files? #mastodon #github #activityhub

  7. I'm looking to self hosted an events based social network for a local hiking club. Any ideas out there?

  8. @sergio_101 That's something I feel unclear about at the moment too...

I believe all these #fediverse projects are based on a protocol on #ActivityHub and I'm guessing are structured similarly, but I'm unsure if a #Mastodon instance can share data with a #Pixelfed instance or if you'd need accounts for each type of social media UI you prefer.

Maybe somebody with a little more #fediverse experience can shed some light.

  9. I remain genuinely and pleasantly shocked that in the course of 10 days or so, we all just went, “no way, eff this, we’re going to @Mastodon”, and now we’re just here and people are so nice and writing alt-text in their images and sharing great stuff and using content warnings and everything. Obviously none of this would have been possible without years of work by #Fediverse / #ActivityHub devs that came before. Even so, this is really something, no? 😃

  11. @haikushack @christa you can even follow channels on video platform #peertube, people on image sharing #pixelfed, events on #mobilizon and people from #friendica #hubzilla and other platforms that implement #activityhub

#fediverse is quite amazing! As a developer I can't wait until #federation is implemented into software forges.

  12. Hey @elonmusk if you care about free speech on twitter then make them to join the fediverse (w3.org/TR/2018/REC-activitypub) so that people can use any client e.g. fediverse.party to use it from decentralized network.
