Just made it back from Trick or Treating with my 6 year old. He made it further than any other year and braved even some of the more entertaining home displays, like this one.
He had lots of fun and when he found out that some of his classmates and friends were nearing our home, he rushed back and answered the door for them... Before going back out and visiting more houses.

I took a autism screener test thing, the Autism-Spectrum Quotient one that you can do online. I took it on a whim after a conversation with my wife about our kid who took the test and got a 30. I scored a 29, which, according to the test, "Scores in the 26-32 range indicate some Autistic traits (Asperger's Syndrome)." It's not a diagnosis, nor am I treating it as such. Honestly, don't know what to make of it at this point. I'll talk to my therapist, I guess. #autism

Autism is a lifelong state, known to be highly heritable. In modern usage, we usually describe it as a 'neurodevelopmental disorder' or 'neurological condition'...
But, even while this framing is widely accepted, autism continues to be clinically measured (in the absence of biomarkers, despite the hopeful billions spent in research money) almost exclusively through its outward manifestations. Some of which may look suspiciously like distress.
It’s a bit like measuring the water in a glass only by looking at the condensation on the outside, without taking into account things like room temperature. It’s not that there isn’t any water; it’s just that the way you’re measuring it is highly unreliable.

Autism: begging the question.
There’s an error of logic known as 'petitio principii', where the proof is the same as the thing it’s meant to prove.
A famous example is Molière’s joke about opium: it makes people sleep because it has a 'virtus dormitiva' – a dormitive virtue. In other words, it makes you sleepy because it has sleep-making-ness.
In the case of autism, the deficit is smuggled into the definition and later presented as the conclusion. Through this subtle manoeuvre, it’s established that deficits are the only acceptable proof that a person is, indeed, autistic.

In addition, we are extending the event by an hour so we have 3 hours each month again!
