The Beatles "Rarities" album (US version) came out today in 1980. I was too young to buy it at the time, but did borrow it a few times (on vinyl) from the local public library. Here it is on 8-Track. New enough to have a barcode on it!

Happy Birthday to David Gilmour, 77 years old today. To mark the occasion, here are a few 8-Tracks! The Dark Side Of The Moon, of course... also Obscured By Clouds, and Unicorn's album Blue Pine Trees, which he produced and played steel guitar on.

I was going through some boxes recently, and found an album with an anniversary coming up. The New York Dolls signed a 2 album deal with Mercury Records 50 years ago this month, recorded the first one the month after, and released it that July. Here it is on 8-Track!

An interesting thrift store find this weekend... John Cougar Mellencamp's "Uh-Huh" on 8-Track. A little newer than most of the records and 8-Tracks I buy, but that's what was interesting about this one... By 1983 8-Tracks were disappearing from stores. This one may have only been available through a record club.
Apart from the opening and closing songs, the track listing is completely rearranged to avoid splitting songs in half (and it still had to split one).

Today is Dave Clark's birthday... He's either 80 or 83, depending on which birth year you believe!
The Dave Clark 5 have always been one of my favorite groups. I've found most of their US releases on Epic... "Everybody Knows" was the last one I found. It was also one of a few DC5 8-tracks Epic released. I don't have that one, but I do have another, their first Greatest Hits album with a few extra tracks.

Just saw it's Jane Birkin's birthday today, so that seems like a good reason to post a picture of the "Je T'Aime" 8-track I found at a local record store last year, still sealed in its original shrink wrap!
Even when a record or 8-track isn't particularly valuable, it still feels strange to open one that's been sealed, in this case over 50 years. So for now it's still sealed, and I'm streaming it instead.

In July 1970 the Beatles were at #1 on the album charts with "Let It Be." Also on the charts that month with HIS "Let It Be" album... Jerry Vale! (But not at #1.) "Let It Be" is the only song that's on both albums, but he does also cover "Something."
I wonder if any copies sold by mistake? "Yes, Grandpa, little Billy would like a copy of 'Let It Be' for his birthday!"
