Another one of my parents’ albums and along with Stardust, my introduction to the standards. This is a budget reissue of the 1973 classic. Arrangements by the great Gordon Jenkins. Nilsson’s voice is absolutely angelic.

#retromusicKonec 60s by nám mohl zpříjemnit začátek nového týdne, což?
🇺🇸 zpěvák a autor *Harry Nilsson* (nar. 15.6.1941) byl jedním z nejnadanějších, ale zároveň nejvíce nedoceněných skladatelů a zpěváků 20. století. Zpěvák přezdívaný „americký Beatles“ (členové kapely ho otevřeně obdivovali) proslul neuvěřitelným rozsahem tří oktáv a schopností mísit pop, jazz, rock a vaudeville.
Harry na rozdíl od svých současníků téměř nekoncertoval, ale soustředil se výhradně na studiovou práci. Jeho největší hity byly paradoxně coververze: *Everybody's Talkin'* (pro film Půlnoční kovboj) a *Without You*.
Harry v letech 1966-80 vydal celkem 18 studiových alb.
Mezi jeho autorská mistrovská díla patří album *Nilsson Schmilsson* z r. 1971.Harryho život a kariéru poznamenal divoký životní styl, ale i úzké přátelství s Johnem Lennonem. Po Lennonově smrti v roce 1980 se Harry Nilsson hudebně téměř odmlčel a věnoval se kampaním za kontrolu zbraní. Zemřel předčasně 15.1.1994 na srdeční selhání.
My si Harryho připomeneme dvěma nahrávkami.
První z nich bude jeho "signature song" - filmová *Everybody's Talkin'*. Jde o filmovou cover verzi písně, kterou složil v r. 1966 zpěvák Fred Neil.
Druhou písničku složil Harry na žádost Paula McCartneyho pro tehdy začínající zpěvačku Mary Hopkin a její první album. Sám Harry ji vydal na svém pátém albu *Harry* (1969).

Was just looking at #HarryNilsson's musical catalog after a coincidence, where I played his "Everybody's Talkin'" on guitar yesterday, then BrianKrebs tooted about his ear-wormy Coconut song a minute ago.
I pulled up Nilsson's famous cover of "Without You" and my partner said "Oh, Eric Carmen's 'All By Myself'" and we went WAIT A MINUTE!?
Those two songs sound like carbon copies, in sentiment, structure and melody. Hard to separate one in your head when you're hearing the other!
