Decided to figure out how to for the 8-track tape. Untangled tape mess (took an hour). Spliced with Scotch tape, and then attempted to rewind using method suggested on YouTube (keep winding and eventually it will spool up). With half the tape out, this was like Sisiphyus and the rock. 45 min, minimal progress. #8track #repair

And, fully repaired! State of the art 1970's tape technology 😆. The issue appears that 8 track tape itself is not going to have done well over the years, especially the rubber roller and the pads which position the tape in the right place for pickup. Every 8 track here has degraded or missing padding behind the tape. Anyway, that was entertaining. #8track #repair

Nearly two decades ago now, I volunteered at a community radio station. They still had a reel-to-reel tape deck (that I never operated), MiniDisc (that I did use), and broadcast-grade loop tapes.
The loop tapes were like 8-tracks, except with one stereo track that was up to a few minutes long.
You'd pop it into the machine, hit play, and it would play, and then it would fast forward back to the start of the tape ready for next time.
They used them for station promos and some music.
The MiniDisc was a proper HiFi stereo unit.

Despite their releasing six albums in the early 70s, I suspect you aren't familiar with the #FamleyGuitarBand. This is partly because their albums only ever saw release on #Quadraphonic #8Track - as well as on the even more obscure 7 ½ ips #ReelToReel format. Famley Guitar Band were a studio-only group that gave us loungy, guitar led instrumental versions of the hits of their day, and were surprisingly good at it - their winsome version of #DannyOKeefe's "Goodtime Charlie's Got the Blues" gets me every time.
Quad 8-tracks are a trip: since the format required twice the tape to create the surround-sound effect, it cut the available play time on a tape in half. You'd only be able to hear the full effect on special quad players, as playback on normal 8-track players resulted in hearing just half (i.e. 2 channels) of the music.

Due to stricter time constraints of the format, #8Track tapes often had re-arranged album track listings and/or songs split abruptly into 2 parts not found on their vinyl counterparts.
So instead of that familiar 1-2 intro punch of "1969" followed by "I Wanna Be Your Dog", you start with those side 2 tracks: "Real Cool Time", "Not Right" & "Little Doll". "1969" is sandwiched between slow songs deep on program 3, and "Dog" is saved for the very last. Indeed a different way to first get acquainted with #IggyPop.
