#8TrackTuesday #DeadFormats #HomeTapingIsKillingMusic
This home taped #OtisRedding & #JimiHendrixExperience #8TrackCartridge eBay-find initially had me stumped. Where oh where had I seen those long legs on the original tape label peeking out from underneath at the bottom? Then I flashed on it: it's the Fool On The Hill album by #SergioMendesAndBrasil66, that easy-listening warhorse of conservative household music collections all across the US in the early 70s.
Finally, Sergio M. is going to good use.
(Also note: this taper went and split both "Satisfaction" and "Like a Rolling Stone" across programs - proof he/she was a truly sensible 8-track listener)

Early #8Track cartridge tape of #TheVelvetUnderground's White Light/White Heat album, with the song "Sister Ray" given it's original demo title, "Searching" (as in: "I'm searching for my mainline")

#NowPlaying #8TrackTuesday #DeadFormats #AfricanMusic
Saif Abu Bakr & the Scorpions were a #Sudanese #Jazz band whose lone 1980 album somehow only saw release on the Bon Zaid Phone label out of #Kuwait. This was one of a scant few #8track cartridges ever released in that country, all which were made . . . in Greece. This probably speaks of some interesting cross-cultural relationships between Kuwait, Sudan, and Greece back then, but all I can verify is that this African organ/sax/guitar mix sounds funky and still feels great today.

#NowPlaying #8TrackTuesday #DeadFormats #TheStooges
Due to stricter time constraints of the format, #8Track tapes often had re-arranged album track listings and/or songs split abruptly into 2 parts not found on their vinyl counterparts.
So instead of that familiar 1-2 intro punch of "1969" followed by "I Wanna Be Your Dog", you start with those side 2 tracks: "Real Cool Time", "Not Right" & "Little Doll". "1969" is sandwiched between slow songs deep on program 3, and "Dog" is saved for the very last. Indeed a different way to first get acquainted with #IggyPop.
