Day 14 of my #20Reviews @bookstodon sees a new entry break in my favourites. As a tepid Gooner for the last 42 years, with spasms of less tepidity, this book was a real delight to read. Even for those not remotely interested in #ArsenalFC or #Football in general, this analysis of the interplay between club, culture, community and corporate capitalism (albeit absent any absurdly affected alliteration) is worth a look imo

This is a short reaction to a book that I absolutely LOVED.

"It is a truth universally acknowledged that" another of Austen's works is the most common pick for Number 1, but this one is my favourite, for sure.

The current plethora of problems with scientific publishing another reminder that #Science is done by humans who are neither intrinsically better or worse than the rest of the species.

My qualifications for judging literary merit are akin to those of a hippo for judging ballet, so my reviews are often more reactions than assessments. Nevertheless, it is fun to share books I've tagged as favourites @thestorygraph with a bit more context to the post. If #20Reviews ever became a thing @bookstodon , that would be pretty neat.

I'm not going to post these at strict 24 hour intervals, but it will be close.

I enjoyed doing the 20 books 20 days @bookstodon but have read several toots from some who really dislike it.

As a fan of #HHGTTG for 42 years, it amuses me that my "Favourites" list @thestorygraph is 42 books long. So I'm going to post 20 books WITH reviews from that list. No covers just links to my reviews. Perhaps some of those #bookstodon or #bookfedi users irked by the cover fest may find something of interest.
