The longest shortest novel I've ever read. 🥱
A very brief review of Roseanna:

I love reading challenges that prompt you to expand your horizons but let you select your own books.
I've seen around the world style challenges before, but hesitated to join since I almost exclusively read SF&F and the books other members add to the prompts are a great way to discover new authors.
Lately I've found the: Speculative Fiction World Tour challenge on The StoryGraph. It has very good prompts and is open ended so no stress inducing deadline.
Sadly there are only 9 participants so far.
I hope others will also find this challenge interesting and join us on a world tour of the speculative fiction genre.

**New achievement!** ***Trailblazing*** **Crazy Cat Lady**!

Hit the halfway mark in my Storygraph Genres challenge. 🚀

I really wish #TheStoryGraph had an API. It would be wonderful if I could automatically share book reviews here as well. And it would let me have my pages read in my Grafana dashboards

Not what I was expecting AT ALL. But I loved it. I laughed out loud. Many times. 🎶🎵🎶
I don't read a lot of sci-fi, but it seems that hard sci-fi is the stuff I like.

This is absolutely SHOCKING! 🤯
I can't recall ever seeing Free Trial terms like this. At least not during this century.
The folks at @thestorygraph aren't scoring any #enshittification points with this kind of fairness and transparency.
-
@TheJournalingFrog There are many! As others mentioned, I personally use #TheStoryGraph and like it. There's also #BookWyrm and #NeoDB which are federated, if you're in to that. I've also heard many good things about #Hardcover , and from a quick look at their site it does indeed look very nice, but I haven't used it myself.
I'm pretty sure there are others, but those are the ones I know about off the top of my head.
-
@janbartosik Yeah, I agree the way they handle that isn't ideal.
I just make liberal use of the "switch edition" link and try to make sure that when I actually start reading any book the edition I've chosen in #TheStoryGraph matches the edition I'm actually using, if possible. If I can't find a matching edition I might track my progress by percent, not page.

Late to the party, I know. Read less than 2024, but it's not that bad. After stumbling on the first season of the Netflix series #DepartmentQ I've decided to read the books. That's most of what I've read this year. Still missing the tenth and last book of the series.
Interestingly enough, of these 15 books only one I physically own. The other 14 are #epub read on my phone, which I find quite convenient, thanks also to the #librera app from #FDroid.

My year 2025 in books.
-
I've been using #TheStoryGraph for a couple years or so, and I agree it seems most like the kind of thing you're probably looking for. It's not perfect but it's gotten a good bit better in the time I've been using it.

#rebsReadings in November - we can almost call it a year, still 41 books to finish if I want to comply with Me Own Olde Challenge... 😜

Let's say September was a mixed experience.
-
I'm happy to be able to announce that August was very good concerning the books I've read and/or finished!
-
Reviews are never mandatory, but they are appreciated! No matter what rating you give, reviews can help authors find their target audience and help readers find books they might enjoy. I personally do not live in fear of one star reviews. All of my books can be found on The Story Graph and Goodreads

Proudly present #rebsReadings [better to say: finalized books] during July - all of those were really good and gripping reads!
[...yes, you can map my well-being reciprocally to the number of books I've read/finished, so yeah, better times to come.]

Greater Boston, who else is using The StoryGraph? One concern I have is their pursuit and investment into so-called AI. (Partly because people tend to double-down the more they've spent on something, even when that thing turns out to be trash...)

I love a reading challenge because it makes me pick up books I would never otherwise choose. For the 'sports personality' prompt of the #thestorygraph genre challenge I picked up. Into the Planet by Jill Heinerth. Fascinating experiences and the storytelling was great. https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/e32b3de9-fe86-4cd9-9fd1-567a36ff5293 #books #bookreview #cavediving #scuba

According to #TheStorygraph I've passed 20,000 pages read this year, now I've #FinishedReading this relatively early piece of #KimStanleyRobinson #SciFi . An interesting way to approach a utopian setting (Orange County CA after a global eco-revolution), focusing on human-level dramas (corruption in local politics, unrequited love, grief) rather than a grand threat to the utopia. #KSR #Bookstodon @bookstodon

And here I am, finally deciding to give #Bookwyrm another try and importing a bunch of books from #TheStoryGraph only to find out that #OpenLibrary.org is down, so lots of failed imports.
Guess, I'll have to take care of the dishes or something. -
Finally finished and reviewed #Ringworld, and I gotta say, classic or not, I had a very tough time with it. Sure, by some "objective" standard it might be a great book, but my experience with it was the complete opposite.

Want to see what I've been reading? I just made my list of books read on @thestorygraph public so that anyone can follow along as I review books about #AntiRacistEducation along with Science fiction and Fantasy titles by under-represented communities like #FemaleAuthors #BlackWriters and other #Diverse cultural perspectives https://app.thestorygraph.com/books-read/resing
Thanks to @nodunayo for creating #TheStoryGraph!

I finished my #thestorygraph yearly book goal, but with COVID, I’ve gone back to my very favorite, #trashy #romance novels and erotica. I’ve started 3 new books but no 🎲. There’s a comfort in #rereadingfavorites.
