Yesterday my Western Art #Music class had a lovely discussion about #highbrow #middlebrow and #lowbrow culture. They decided that the categories were artifacts of a different culture; that technologies of access nowadays render that structure obsolete. That the 20th century had backwards and Eurocentric notions of privilege and “the intellectual” in music, and that “niche” was a fairer category than “highbrow”
The class remained divided on whether Taylor Swift could be considered highbrow :-)

Having #saison #beer for the very first time tonight, and it's more delightful than I was expecting. It's basically the "rustic" (i.e. "shit") beer brewed out of whatever was available for the peasant farmers of Medieval Western Europe, so just captured wild yeast in the air; so they're similar to Belgian Trappist ales except even more earthy and rough than those, with the sharp taste you might experience when drinking it in a barn surrounded by hay. #MiddleBrow #Chicago #WildYeast
