  2. What a way to end the week. I have just learned that my book, The Lady’s Magazine (1770-1832) and the Making of Literary History has been shortlisted by the Wordsworth-Coleridge Association for the 2023 Marilyn Gaull Book Award. I could not be more thrilled #Romanticism #18c

  3. As part of the big house declutter (a long project to precede the BIG MOVE next year, I finally unboxed all my copies of the Lady’s Magazine and found them a home). #ladysmagperiodicals #rarebooks #18c #19c

  4. Lover’s Bridge designed by Richard Phelps in the #18c as part of the Georgian landscape improvements at #Dunster. #devon #holiday

  5. c18.masto.host remains open to new members with an interest in the #18thcentury!

I started this instance on 1 Nov. 2022 in order to establish a home for colleagues in interdisciplinary global #18c studies (with many neighbors joining from #17c and #19c). We had a big push of new members in November and December, along with a donation drive to cover server costs. Early this year, many created placeholder accounts but were not yet ready to dive in. As the community grows, I hope they return!

  6. In honor of #NationalHandwritingDay, a specimen of #penmanship from 1 of Boston's #18c writing schools. His instructor was keen to ensure that Samuel Bonner in 1751 would never forget that “Lamentation and mourning are the companions of Vice.” Samuel’s flourishes are pretty cool.

  7. Hello Mastodon - first day here - anyone else interested in #JaneAusten #18C #BookHistory ?

  8. Hello, #histodons! Welcome to my attempt at an #introduction...

I'm an #18c specialist, focusing on the history of the senses, history of color, and the history of France.

I love anything quirky, scandalous, unexpected, or over the top.

Since leaving academia, I've branched out with my writing interests, and I have a book on #bluejeans coming out in January.

I'm also a #ghostwriter. At the moment, I #amreading anything written by Flaubert.

  9. The call for PhD applications will soon be opening up around here (deadline 1 March 23): it's relatively competitive (only for top 10–15% of MA students & a detailed proposal needed), but it's also a VERY generous programme: 4y, excellent salary + bench fee, working conditions, independence. Are you (or do you know anyone) who'd be a great researcher, with a great idea—on #Romanticism, very (very!) long #19C #18C ; British and/or transnational/comparative? Do get in touch! #phd #academic
