“In Exploring Homer’s Odyssey by Emma Bridges, you will get to know Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem, which tells of the soldier Odysseus’ long and fantastical journey home to his wife Penelope after the Trojan War. You’ll meet both Penelope and Odysseus, and by exploring the mythical story of their reunion you’ll learn more about what it means to be a hero in their world as well as in our own.”

Sad to learn that the "iSpot" project was ended by Open University this year. It was a cleverly-designed platform for people to help each other identify nature photos, a system that understood each user's individual expertise. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISpot #openuniversity

The OU Framework for the Learning and Teaching of Critical AI Literacy Skills
I found this a really helpful approach from the Open University. Firstly, identify the elements of critical digital literacy the institution wants staff and students to cultivate:
Then offer staff a practical list of the actions associated with each of the elements, such as those listed for AI ethics in the report:
- Use key criteria to evaluate AI tools (e.g. functionality, accessibility, privacy,
security, copyright). - Engage with ethical issues related to AI, such as bias, deepfakes, copyright
infringement, data security and privacy, with a focus on AI- based creativity. - Consciously take account of ethical issues by acting in a way that promotes responsible use of AI, e.g. asking for consent before using personal data,
refraining from spreading misinformation.
I think this is how you integrate programme development and staff development. The criteria can provide ILOs which can be incorporated into programme development (i.e. what does ’embedding critical AI literacy’ into teaching actually mean?) while also providing workable objectives for staff development.

..universities are PUBLIC assets private companies should be banned from investing in bc their only goal is profit & control.
they should pay their taxes instead.
the #OpenUniversity is complicit in war crimes & genocide paid for with our tuition fees. -
excuses, excuses. as usual the #OU is not addressing any concerns raised openly, & by claiming this is a purely academic internal discussion they avoid the political agenda behind it all. cause let's face it, there IS one bc they allow weapons manufacturers to take seats in the university decision making bodies & fund & run the whole IT campus, to fill the public funding gap quietly privatising the university.

So even if I don't submit my final assessment, I have still passed one module with 59.64%. So maybe I can chill a teeny bit about getting this final assignment right.

I fucking hate that Open University have made me hate education when I used to love it - specifically when it was socially not ok to enjoy it. I fucking loved the academic side of school and college, and the teeny amount of uni I did way back.
But have they really made me hate "education"?! I think what they are doing is not by definition education...

Fuck it, I've submitted my assignment. It's trash and probably not what they want, but it is not gonna matter how many times I re-read their instructions and ask other people about them, because the problem is the instructions.

Today on my #OpenUniversity tutorial, "You MAY be asked to look at primary sources in higher levels."
Apparently at level 3 you do have to do "some."
I've said it before and I will say it again; this isn't a university, this is a playgroup.

omfg, for the final assignment of this year you are still explicitly not allowed any external sources. Only the module materials, i.e. the books and website info they provide. No actual studies.
How is this possibly a uni degree?

very cool article about us in the #canary with a very cool video from us about the #OUPSG activism disrupting careers events at #BAE & #Cisco who are 2 #WeaponsManufacturers heavily involved in #genocide & dominating the #OpenUniversity, privatising it effectively from the inside out.
there's links in the article encouraging you to join in our actions & support us..#press #IndependentMedia #news #FreePalestine 🇵🇸

Has anyone here done a psychology Masters or Doctorate with the #OpenUniversity recently?
I'm wondering if their postgrad programmes are better than their undergrad, and thus whether it's worth seeing if I can switch to a postgrad with them.
Have sent off applications to London & Essex for undergrad too.
Brunel they won't accept me for the conversion MsC as they require an undergrad degree. But she said that there are Psychology Masters courses who would accept me without a degree.

so it wasn't great but in good news she went through some feedback with me and confirmed my "this is bullshit" opinion of it.
So I have just emailed my tutor with basically a take down of their feedback and a bunch of questions given my next assignment for that module is the same thing so I need to know WTF they are marking for. -

I am forcing myself through this absolute hellscape of an #OpenUniversity assignment.
Tutor replied to my email without answering the question I asked in it.
My student mentor says the assignment and info around it is awful.
My friends say the same.
Someone who took the same module before said the same and that they have had complaints about it.And yet here we are...

Goal for today to, hopefully, get me closer to finishing this assignment without crushing me with stress:
- write methods section (which is just a copy paste thing basically).
- write discussion section (which should help me feel better cos I can tear down how bad and pointless this study is). Will have to wait for a reply from someone after the weekend on what the rationale for doing a study that's been done better in all ways multiple times is...

Uni continues to be intensely distressing, not because the academic work is hard but because I am consistently up against everything being designed for NTs.
This assignment is to write a research report, something I did at GSCE with zero problems. I even did the fucking experiment myself for GCSE!
But for this they have drip fed incomplete info, hidden some essential info in a "recap" section, and expect us to reverse engineer a report from the results data. -

I have just under 2 weeks of steroids - I'm gonna see if I can get caught up on uni totally in those 2 weeks rather than the month and a bit I've been given, being as my body and brain both work at the moment. Which is a science created miracle!

BOOM! Assignment done (not submitted yet, I'm gonna re-read it again later) complete with rant about Queerphobia in psychological research.

Right, today is hopefully a power through 1-2 weeks of uni day as I play catch up.

Sharing because I am humbled, honoured, proud, and galvanised - via 100% derived status - to work alongside the incredible Professor Kristina Hultgren at the #OpenUniversity on upholding #AcademicFreedom in #HigherEducation, which is being increasingly threatened.

Managed 400 messy words laying down via speech to text but can't sit up long enough to edit them into something coherent and closer to the 600 limit

And now this:
"despite affirming the term’s historical accuracy, the OU agreed to “not use the term ‘ancient Palestine’ in any future course materials”, and to “explain and contextualise its use in existing materials for current learners”."

consider signing this #petition set up by one of my #FreePalestine 🇵🇸 activist student pals who are holding the #OpenUniversity to account for their active complicity in the #genocides their 'partners' are waging with our tuition fees. #BAE #Cisco #Alphabet #Google #Microsoft & others.
