  4. Several years ago, I was a mentor at a weekend hackathon for teenage nerds. At the end, the kids presented their results to a crowd of mostly their families and some local newspaper journalists.

One of the kids, performing on stage in stereotypical "dangerous hacker" hoodie outfit, presented a prototype of a "secure encrypted, censorship-free chat system". It actually was a a non-functional click dummy based on an existing webchat demo project.

The kid spoke about features of the chat system that did not exist, some of the promised features were impossible to implement.

    It was all vaporware.

The audience was vowed by the genius dangerous hacker kid and applauded. It all sounded so plausible to them.

In the age of vibe-coding, this is an experience I often think back of.

  11. "... the Kremlin appears to be making several bets at once: that Russia can outlast Ukraine in a war of attrition, that high oil prices will keep money flowing, that missile pressure can exploit weaknesses in Ukrainian air defenses, and that political and economic strain will weaken support in Europe and the United States. But every one of those bets depends on timing. ..."

  16. #Michigan has been known by several nicknames, but some variations of the phrase #Winter #Water #Wonderland has been around since at least the mid 1950's.

At an ever increasing pace, they seem to be less valid slogans on the 'Winter' phase as we creep forward into a #ClimateChange event that soon enough won't be reminiscent of flowery words and pretty pictures.

Today's #Weather - in mid-October - is no different than many days in June, July, or August, at 81 degrees Fahrenheit!

  17. I have updated Linux Mint several times., e.g. from version 20 (or so) to now 22.3.
The i386 architecture is left over from the old versions. If I re-install the OS (root filesystem) instead of running an update in-place will the i386 architecture installed, again, or just the amd64 architecture ?
Of course, I always do a full backup before any updates of OS versions, so I can get back anytime. Just want to know what others have done to remove the i386 packages and architecture. I found several how-to's on the internet and did a apt-search .*i386 already.
Steam software can still require some i386 packages, but I don't have that installed. The app-images I use should work, anyway, I think
