Flooding: More than 1000 people have died in Chad, Niger, Nigeria and Mali. Close to 1 million people had to flee their houses, according to the New York Times.
One example is Maiduguri in Nigeria where a dam has overflown. The flood buried half of the city. Maiduguri, the capital of Borno province in northeastern Nigeria, has more than 1,1 million residents.
“I woke up at 1am when I felt water on my legs,” Fatima Yakub told the BBC. “It was rising very fast, and I was so scared. I thought I was going to die with my children.” -
