    Back on the radio again!

    Back to the Radio!
Well, it’s been a while since you last heard from me, since I last wrote an update for this little blog of mine. I’ve had a nice summer holiday, and well, it was more than just a summer holiday, sinceI was gone for most of autumn as well. But I needed the break, and now I am feeling quite refreshed and ready to open the gates to the Tulip Garden again. There may be more surprises from radio land from me, but we will have to wait and see for that!

So, today, in under half an hour from now, I will be opening the gates to the Tulip Garden again, all live on Ultimate Radio, and I hope it will be a great and fun time! For 3 hours, I will be playing a wide variety of music. There will be 3 rounds of Choose The Song again, but the best part I think is the theme. And for today I have chosen something that is very open and wide for everyone, and also something personal. The theme in this first Tulip garden is absolute favourite songs. Think of songs you have heard countless times. You may have known them for a very long time, or maybe not so long, it really does not matter. But they need to be absolute personal favourites, and there are probably a lot of those. I can probably find a few myself. I think this nice, easy theme will be a nice way to open the gates to the Tulip Garden, and get everyone in the mood! And I hope you will be there too!

I will honestly admit, I was inspired for today’s theme by something that is currently happening on a Dutch radio station, NPO Radio 5, where this week they are running the Evergreen top 1000. It’s an annual, recurring event, very popular hier in the Netherlands, and I thought, well, let’s not call it Evergreen, but do something slightly similar in the Tulip Garden. Many of my features have been inspired by something else, the Titles Puzzle was my take on a little game they did on the radio in the top 40 show many years ago. Choose the song is a variety of something they did a few years ago on a Dutch radio show I enjoyed listening to, but I always make the effort to turn these into my own version, with my own spin on them, my own twists and turns. I enjoy coming up with little variations of games and things for the Tulip Garden, making them different. Making them uniquely me.

Well, that’s it from me for now. I need to get ready to host a radio show, and get some coffee and all that good stuff, Until next time, I hope to write again soon! Take care!

    A little Dutchy update
Wow, it’s been a while, hasn’t it? The last time I wrote anything here was the week of Eurovision, to be exact, it was the day of the Second Semi final of Eurovision 2024, and I was still very excited about the Dutch entry, it all sounded so amazing, like we were going to do really well. And we did well, that semi final performance was amazing. But after that, things unraveled, and Joost was disqualified from participating in the grand final. Well, and I only read today that apparently the Netherlands ended second in its semi final, so oh my… I think we were cheated. It’s really hard to say, was the disqualification fair? I don’t think so, I think it was way over the top. But that of course is no reason for writing an update post here.I did just want to check in for a bit, tell you how my life has been, and with a little bit of luck I will actually get this posted as well.

So, the Tulip Garden has been strong. During May I have been doing some interesting Eurovision features, such as returning artists, and Eurovision from 1975, 1989 and 1996, and it was really interesting to rediscover songs, learn new ones, and just get a general sense of how Eurovision has been evolving. I have been watching Eurovision on and off since 1989, but back in the day we never had a video recorder, and even if we would have, I don’t think we ever recorded eurovision. The internet and things like that were also not a thing back then, so although I vaguely remembered a few details, a lot of that was mixed up. I did remember 1989 was known for the youngest artists to feature in Eurovision to date, and a new rule coming in with a minimal age. It was also fun to bring the Titles Puzzle back for a month.
June started with my friends Alicey and Phil visiting me, and we had a great time together. We went to a coffee place nearby, and had a great time there, and we just spent time in my apartment and had good chats. One evening we also had home-made pizza, and it was delicious. The rest of the month has been quite uneventful, but that week with my friends was really a highlight.
So, now July is here, and this Sunday the 7th, I’ve been catching up on podcasts and trying out new apps for the first time, such as the Drafts app, which I am testing now to write this little update.
Well, for the rest, my life has been quite ordinary, and I have not gotten any further with my plans to renew my website. I guess I need to get into that mood again some day. But I am sure it will happen.
Well, that’s a bit of a random update, with some things that just happen to come into my head, and I hope you are doing well. Have a lovely day!

  19. #Yesterday I went #iceskating with my partner. It was the 2nd time my partner was on #ice, 1st time with me. Let's say there is some more work to do before my partner is a real #Dutchy 🤣🤣🤣.

It's also fun how different ice skating habits are in #Vietnam. For one, way less people here know how to skate. And for those who do, dancing seems way more popular than speed skating. Quite the opposite of The #Netherlands, where we prefer the later and I've never seen the former.
