#Halloween comes from "All Hallows' Eve", being the night before All Hallows' Day ("All Saints' Day"), which is followed by "All Souls' Day" on 2 November. These three days are a part of Allhallowtide, a time when Western #Christians honour all #Christian martyrs and saints, as well as pray for departed souls.[47] Halloween is influenced by Christian beliefs and practices surrounding these holy days.[48][49][47] Christian holidays such as Christmas and Easter have vigils that begin the night before, as does the feast of All Hallows.[50] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween
why ruin #pumkins ?
It’s not meant to ruin them, it’s a Halloween tradition. People in #Ireland and #Britain originally carved faces into #turnip and other root #vegetable, then put a light inside, partly to ward off spirits. When the tradition came to North America, pumpkins were easier to carve, so they became the jack-o’-lanterns we know today.
