Not sure why she'd say don't use the post. They were in a labour disruption so deliveries were uncertain, but they've got a tentative deal and they're all back at work. If you send it air/first class/whatever the UK post calls it, it should be relatively quick and reliable. If what you're sending would attract any duty / excise / taxes, Canada Post also imposes the lowest fees for clearing customs. That might not affect you, if it's a gift of low value.
DHL is "meh". FedEx is quick and reliable, and expensive. UPS is cheaper, fairly reliable, and tries not to run over packages with its trucks more than a third of the time, max. [1] Both impose fairly high customs and brokerage charges unless you use their most expensive options which include them IIRC.
[1] I literally had two deliveries in a row squashed flat with obvious big-truck tire tracks across them.

Most polls suggest #labour will take the #wellingborough seat next Thursday in the #byelection - #rightPopulism is noisy, but not popular (and never right in the sense of correct)
The #toriesOut vote will collapse - an MP being replaced for frankly a pretty grimly unpleasant bit of sexual harrassment and seeking to be replaced by his partner can expect nothing else

My noisy neighbours started screeching at each other, about 20 minutes ago, in their front room. I could no longer follow my tv programme so I switched the TV to a music radio station, turned up the volume to where my dad would have had it without his hearing aids. And left the room. I have closed 3 doors between me and my TV and am listenng to Radio Roland Garros in the kitchen.

My neighbour decided to tackle our gate posts today. I've been trying to get hold of some bolts approx 180mm long, & some large metal washers, to solve our problem. But he decided on a quick remedy today. My offers of help, tools, timber etc. were all rejected. I messaged LD saying I dont know why I always assume our neighbour is not practical? I have no evidence. Then I sent this photo 😂 #DIY

Today I am tacklng this little gem. Its the base of the wetroom doorframe. Like me - when I put the wood filler in - you're probably thinking it's caused by a wet floor. But no, when the frame was erected, the builders obviously punctured a pipe in the solid concrete floor, very slightly. It could be underfloor heating - but probably not, or the water supply to, or the waste from, the washing machine. 🤷🏻
It taken 10 years to look like this, so I'm in no hurry to dig up the floor ... yet. #DIY -

The garden feels empty of wildlife this morning, I'm missing the blue tits. It is wet, cool and intermittently breezy out there. There are 3 swifts chasing across the sky, and a sparrowhawk cruising quite high. A goldfinch came and bobbed briefly on a clematis frond just outside the window. The squirrel has been to the birdseed bin, I opened the top half of my stable-door and asked it what it thought it was up to? It bounded off and ran along the fence. #birds #nature

Good luck to everyone who is voting today. There are no local elections here, so I'm feeling a little left out.
But I can confirm that Reform led councils are as useless as you might expect them to be. Raising the tax they said they'd lower, not finding any of the HUGE savings they were going to make, and falling out among themselves all the time. #JustSaying -
