  1. I wrote about this some time ago, but I know things are constantly changing in the world of technology, so perhaps, someone has created something usable for us. I am seeking a program or website similar to Omni Describer, which uses artificial intelligence to generate audio descriptions of videos. I am an individual doing this for myself. I used Omni Describer when it was free and loved it, but I can't justify their current prices for home use. At any rate, the site/program must have the following features.
    1. Must be either free or affordable (no more than $25 per month).
    2. Must be able to handle videos of at least an hour in length.
    3. Must be fully accessible with NVDA.
    4. Must allow me to download the audio of the video with descriptions in mp3 (preferred) or the video itself with descriptions.
Does such a program or site exist or is there a way to bring various technologies together to create it? For those who are against such things, I am one individual doing this for myself, not for an educational setting, a government organisation, or the general public. I can't afford to hire people to describe cat videos, tell me what a basket weaver is doing when she says "put this reed here like that", describe all of the nature videos I watch, etc. I'm not seeking perfection or professional quality, just an idea of what is going on.

And don't tell me to pair up lyrics on some lyrics site with my music, accessibility should be the standard across the board.

It shouldn't be extra work to understand lyrics in songs. #accessibility #music

  6. @hugovalters this test result was close to perfect for what I'll need in the future, thanks!

Next time I'm given a YouTube or alternative video without closed captions, I'll be less frustrated.

Side note: the original podcast and transcript are at futureknowledge.transistor.fm/

  9. Accessible Web Design: WordPress Accessibility Day: 2026. “The first WordPress Accessibility Day was 6 years ago today. It started at 17:45 UTC on October 2nd, 2020, when I gave the opening remarks. It certainly took a very different path than the one towards the 2026 edition, which starts in just a few days, on October 7th.”

  15. One thing that I've learned from @bce 's Retina Mapper headset prototype is that we will need methods to easily and automatically prototype exact shapes of foam padding for where the headset touches the user's face and head. I've looked into options, and I'm going to start experimenting with using our Sainsmart Genmitsu 4040 CNC router, which we've previously used for aluminum, to cut foam pieces. We're going to start experimenting with a vacuum clamp to hold the soft foam while it is machined.

I'm thinking this also may be a good method of machining box inserts for storing and shipping the headset product.

  16. I am seeking an e-mail client with the following features. I was happily using Thunderbird 78 and 102, but the former keeps quitting unexpectedly in Windows 10, 11, and even 7, where it never did before! 102 is tolerable, but anything after that is a mess.
    1. Must work with NVDA screen reader. I've tried several supposedly simple programs, but they were all inaccessible.
    2. Must have standard menus, accessible via the alt and arrow keys as well as hotkeys for sending, replying, forwarding, etc. I want something with a clean interface as well, not cluttered like Thunderbird 115 and later.
    3. Must work with Windows 7. It is my preferred operating system and I will not waste time arguing about it.
    4. Must be able to read and reply to messages without downloading them. Thunderbird has this feature. Essentially, the work is done on the server via the client.
    5. Must be able to search the bodies of e-mails. For some reason, Thunderbird 115 and probably higher appears to lack this important feature.
    6. Must work with GMail, preferably natively, but app passwords are also fine. This is the main reason I am even using a client. Yahoo has a wonderful Basic HTML version, but Gmail does not.
    7. I don't need other features aside from the normal functions of an e-mail client i.e. send, receive, allow for multiple accounts with separate inboxes, spell-checking (optional), signature (optional), and sound alerts (optional but preferred). I don't use other services that I need to connect with my e-mail client i.e. cloud, calendar, contacts, meeting platforms, etc. I also neither need nor want ai features in such a program.

  18. An accessible document is a document that people with a range of physical and cognitive impairments can read and understand.

An accessible document is, typically, also a document that people with no physical or cognitive impairments can read and understand better, and faster.
