  1. #Okefenokee2024 Canoe Trip

End of our second day at Big Water Chickee. Plenty of time to get settled in and eat a leisurely dinner. Much less wind, but temps dipped to 38 overnight.

Narrows along the Red Trail, nice to have all the living trees 🙂 after going through about two miles of standing dead post-fire! 🔥

  3. #Okefenokee2024 Canoe Trip

These photos are from the upper drainage that becomes the #SuwanneeRiver further south. There was a 0.5 - 1mph current, which actually made the canoeing *harder* in the winding parts. There were lots of alligators out sunning themselves on this 50-60 degree day. 🐊

  4. #Okefenokee2024 Canoe Trip

The canoe trails are clearly marked in most of the preserve. The Maul Hammock Chickee is probably the most remote campsite, with about ten miles of "canoe-only, permit-required" trail in both directions. We did not see another party for two days. Not much #LightPollution either! 🙂 ✨ 👍

  5. #Okefenokee2024 Canoe Trip

It poured rain on us before we got to our #chickee platform the first night. We set up our #hammocks using what I call a "skyhook" on the vertical beams. This is useful when the distance between uprights is short--the loop above prevents slipping down, loop around beam keeps the tension pulling horizontally.

This was the windiest camping I've ever done. There were no trees nearby and the gusts were 25mph+! 💨 The rain-flies were flapping all night but nothing broke loose or blew away. Small miracle. 🙂

If my memory serves, #ClaranceThomas also went years without asking a single question during oral arguments. Now that he owes a few rich benefactors he’s asking questions when he shouldn’t even be in the room?! 🤔

"...there were 1.6 million new infections per day with a steep slope of rise, to get to the estimate of ~2 million infections each day at peak of the JN.1 wave."

Bottom line: new infections WAY up, hospitalizations less so.

Risk of #LongCOVID increases with every repeat infection. Up to 4% of Americans are already suffering from it. Latest #Vaccine gives protection from severe illness, death, AND LongCOVID!! #GetVaccinated if you can!

This is something that has always puzzled me... esp. with the 2nd Amendment as background ("well-regulated militia" and all that).

In our lawful #society... #police have a monopoly on the use of force internally (granted a reasonable right to self-defense by citizens, etc.). The #military has the exclusive right to use force externally. The #Founders did not envision a #peacetime army, therefor the #Militia would be made up of #citizen #soldiers, each with their own weapon. With no standing army, it would be up to the Militia to respond to external threats (at least in the short term). This Militia would have to be coordinated by either the States or Federal government.

So how is it we have arms-bearing, private "militias" that are not part of the National Guard or Reserves?!

I think most #Paramilitary activity should be regulated if not severely limited by law. They can always join the Guard or Reserve.

Otherwise they just become an internal threat as we saw on #Jan6.
