#pascal #solitario #niklauswirth #algoritmi youtube.com/watch?v=Tcg00ygIUy

Hokay... I'm going to have a better look at that data when it's not midnight. 😉

The project name scared me; I thought at first it was going to be something to do with the #Oberon language, of which I have been very careful to avoid learning anything about 😜

  11. I'm a bit surprised that Niklaus Wirth et al would use Verillog instead of VHDL to implement Oberon RISC5.

Is anyone well-versed enough to try to bring some light on this topic?

I don't have a preference, but with VHDL being so closely related, at least in style, to the Wirth family of languages, it seems at least somewhat interesting that he would choose the language that is less similar to his own.

  16. Wirth on the importance of abstraction to language design

"C++ ... C# and Java ... they suffer from their 'mightiness'. I'm always expecting they're going to collapse under their own weight." -- #NiklausWirth (2018)

Thank you for the ever-pertinent reminder to read these brilliant expositions.

Quiet manifestos by two masters in #CS. They are must reads for anyone who is interested in designing systems and tools, in any field. The calls for #simplicity, economy & useability are of universal relevance. And these biographically motivated essays are themselves models in simplicity and concreteness, resting unboastingly on the personal achievements of their authors.
