Terrible Invasive Story 🙁
I had a real treat the other day when a Green Tree Frog visited me in the hot tub. I used to see these almost every day, but no more. Spring used to bring a cacophony of frogs chirping, but no more.
The reason is "The Beast" aka the #Invasive #CubanTreeFrog which EATS OTHER TREE FROGS! They are huge and toad-like. I kill them when I find them, but the battle is already lost where I live in north #Florida.
As you can see from the #Map, these invaders are moving north and are now #Endemic in my area (red circle). 👎

Our last day was the longest... ~15 miles.
Came in after dark, but the take out had on demand lighting and an automatic gate to get out. Very Nice!

There is a 2/10 mile portage, flat, some of it wet after a rain. Easy with the cart they provided. 🙂
Eastern approach was the shallowest and most congested with fallen debris on the entire trip. Not really a problem but the first mile was slow going.

Reposting the #map for orientation. The campsite/portage is at the southern tip of a long strip of higher ground. The cabin was build in the 1920s and is on the National Register of Historic Places. In this and the next post I will share some of the plaques on the wall.

Floyds Island campsite and cabin. Very open and airy; lots of large oak, pine, and magnolia trees!
Easy 2/10 mile portage. They even provide a little cart for your gear! 🙂

Interesting flowers along the trail (pretty good for February!)...
First is Golden Club (Arum Family), second is Hooded Pitcher Plant (carnivorous), and the third is something I have yet to identify. 🤷♂️ It was growing in small floating mats with flowers that looked like they could be used for buttons on a shirt.
