New instance, new #introduction.

Hello everyone! I’m a meteorologist working at a company that launches #weather balloons. On Mastodon, I toot about #weather, mostly #BCstorm, #WAwx, and #ORwx.

Despite being in the United States, most of my toots will be in metric (ºC, km, etc.). This is the result of a poll from several years ago when I lived in Portland.

I recently moved from White Rock, B.C. to Hermiston, Oregon and am excited to be back in Oregon and closer to family. Some #geology tidbits will be thrown in along with my thoughts on rural life, family life, and my #LDS faith.

I am an avid geocacher with 3119 finds. I enjoy sharing my exploration and also stats on my #geocache finds.

I am also a #HamRadio / #AmateurRadio operator. I also recently discovered #meshtastic and have been playing around with that quite a bit.

Since joining Mastodon several years ago I have lived in Portland, Oregon, White Rock, British Columbia, and now Hermiston, Oregon. I jumped around servers as I moved but I think I will stick around here a while since AI6YR's server is full of people who also live in the science and emergency communication sphere. Thank you Ben for letting me fill your instance with Pacific Northwest weather!

Ein Geocache in der Wüste von Kuwait, der Platz heißt (oder hieß, der Cache ist mittlerweile archiviert) "Windy Rocks". Das Foto ist beim zweiten Versuch in der Nacht entstanden, die Temperaturen waren heiß aber erträglich. Beim ersten Versuch, einige Monate vorher, haben drei große Flaschen Wasser für 20 Minuten beinahe nicht gereicht ... so heiß ist es dort.

On my work trip to SoCal I was able to acquire four more 4-character QTH grid squares for #geocache finds, bringing my total to 130 and connecting the cluster including Los Angeles to the cluster including Seattle.

Continuing my project to compile my #Geocaching stats. Today's task kind of evolved into adding functionality and doing cleanup on my QTH grid map while I charge up my car at the library.

I found a few geocaches this morning, giving me a deeper color on CM87 (San Francisco). I am currently missing 15 grids in California.

Have you heard of #Geokrety? Or have you heard of #travelbugs? They're great fun, and whereas TravelBugs are commercial and will cost you money, Geokrety are open-source and completely free!

With a little DIY, you can turn whatever you like into a trackable object. People can then move these from cache to cache and register each move with this service. You can then see the trip of your Geokret on a map, and people can leave stories of what they've been through in the log! Cute, right?

While geocaching tends to slow down during the winter months—with fewer boots on the trails and some caches even tucked away under the snow—this "off-season" is actually the perfect time to start a project. You can spend the cold evenings crafting your Geokrety so they are ready to hit the wild as soon as the spring thaw begins!

Navigation is made easy. We found a location we wanted using any platform, then shared it to Geo Cache and opened it in Organic Maps. Arranged everything in order and the days itinery is complete. If you have tried to do a large route with plenty of stops on Google Maps, you will know that it is tedious, but with Organic Maps it is a breeze.
