  9. The accolades for @ondrej keep pouring in! Here's an article from the BBC: bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cw30ej

The Internet as a whole and the open source community in particular are SO fortunate to have him and the other volunteers working on our behalf.

As Ondřej modestly says, "This too shall pass," but this effort is truly heroic and appreciated.

Thank you again and keep up the great work!

  16. I know the use of LLMs are controversial, but I wanted a mod for Tears of the Kingdom so running would not deplete stamina.

I could find the mod for a lower version of the game. ChatGPT was able to inspect my files and update the mod for the latest version of the game. It took less than 5 minutes.

I'm constantly shocked at what LLMs are able to do these days.

  17. I'm honestly having much more fun than expected reading those old books. It's like having a snapshot of the era's scientific knowledge, but also of the general mood, perspectives, theories, beliefs and ambitions they had back then.

The book exposes three theories for the origin of the Moon, none of which is the one that gathers consensus today.

  18. Still reading old-ish science books, this time it's the 1971 Exploring the Planets. The extreme optimism of "with enough effort we can have humans on Mars in 10 years" aged pretty funny.

The scientific knowledge of the outer solar system is really unsurprisingly lacking, and obviously predates the Voyager probes. Though it's surprising that some of the things that were observed in the 1700s, such as transient lunar phenomena, or Venus ashen light, are still basically cryptids to this day.

  22. Kudos to @sfscon for valuing diversity in 🫶

Tbh I find diversity focused activities the peak of cringe, but until we are more than 10% of a sector that we all depend on for our digital sovereignty, it remains necessary. Thanks to the @fsfe for organizing this workshop.

  24. Had 10 unused days of annual leave left.

Used 3 to bridge between Christmas and New Year

Then I used the rest to give myself a run of consecutive 4 working day weeks in the run-up to Christmas.

I wish I had 4-day weeks for forever.

  27. Okay, friends, we don't need smarter and faster LLMs. We don't need better harnesses. We don't need to produce more code.

    Review is the bottleneck.

We need to improve and simplify the languages, system APIs, review and verification processes.

We always needed better foundations, but today those issues shines like diamonds in the sun.

And I bet that "AI" won't magically solve it for us.
