Tutorial: Importing and Using Scaled Reference Images
Often we might need to create geometry to fit real world objects that we don't have a CAD model for. Whilst we might jump to complex 3D scanning methods and more, sometimes a simple reference image, or images, can really help the process. Even more so if we can accurately scale the image.

A little delayed gratification for LAST week's #FreeCADFriday: My rotating Labubu Holder for up to 8 Labubus (or other things you can hang). Took a while to manufacture because my printer decided to fuck off in that general direction --> with its hotend (the hotend lost screws and essentially bent) so I had to wait for replacement, but now the screw tolerances are flawless. 100.0% 3D printed!
Model can be found here:

It's #FreeCADFriday! Hope you have all had a wonderful week and are looking forward to the weekend. What are you working on with #FreeCAD? #CAD #CAM

To all the #FreeCAD fans out there.
I am working on a #LaserCutting design and when I export from TechDraw to SVG, the parts are all rendered with fill that I then need to delete lest the laser decide to engrave it.
Is there a way to make that not happen?
I am guessing this is a template thing, but I don't really understand how templates work.

I had a rare weekend of peace and quiet (aside from the dogs) so I spent some time playing with #FreeCAD. Sadly I wasn't able to get constraints to work so I returned to #tinkercad which allowed me to get to my first design scoped out in about 5 minutes. It has promise and the latest version certainly feels modern. However when the UI doesn't match the tutorials or documentation its quote confusing for a newbie like me. #3dprinting

Arguably my most loved Workbench in #FreeCAD (beside PartDesign, where I spend the vast majority of my time) is the ThreadProfile Bench. You can create both External and Internal Threads with nothing but a few clicks and - given your printer is at least somewhat precise - they should fit nicely without much post-processing!

Quite some time for me to take part in a #FreeCADFriday but here is a Holder for up to 8 Labubus, since we couldn't be arsed to buy one for 12€ in china 🤣 (will show up later on my manyfold if anyone's interested)

CW: Today... 2026 March 31 ... Woodworking (sort of), food, dishes, I don't know... 1/?
Last night (or early early this morning more accurately) I decided that I couldn't face the dishes, and needed sleep more than I needed to sort the dishes out. I really think this was a good decision, as there was a high probability that if I had not gone to bed, but tried to do my usual night time stuff, while I was trying to get to bed, someone would have come and bothered me, so yeah, probably a good decision.
That said, still not dealt with those dishes, in part because getting stuff like that done during the day ends up being difficult. I start doing stuff, and a good percentage of the time, someone comes and distracts me, so that happened today. I did get some of them done. And I managed to not make too many new ones, as I just said, "ah toast it..." to food today...
Yeah, today was pretty much not dealing with food (for the humans at least, really spoiled creatures if you ask me). I was tired, dishes weren't available to get out of the dishwasher (not my ideal situation to be pulling stuff out of the dishwasher, but better than deciding that I need something that I end up washing by hand). So had toast, and various other very easy things, that made minimal dishes.
My pain was high (like dangerously high to be honest), and I was pretty tired. I did manage to get a bit of time to lie down.
Today I did a bit of stuff trying to do some "progress towards doing #woodworking " trying to get this shave horse closer to feeling confident just starting to pull some stuff together.
I wrote up some stuff in #TeX last night, just getting some of my thoughts down, and basically that. I did some stuff in #FreeCAD today (and last night) trying to get a drawing together to see what things look like (to go with the writing, which likely will be abandoned, as I'll just do the thing).
Today, I grabbed an old rusty, handles falling off draw knife, and started to clean it up. In terms of total progress on it, I'd say it's not a lot, but the step from being something I'm not even sure I want to put any time into, to now looking at it a little bit cleaned up, and finding that even as rusty as it is, it still has an edge, it's something I do want to put effort into.
Another thing I have been wanting to start my summer (well spring) brewing, and started to get a ginger bug together. Unfortunately the previous bug had gone all acetone smelling, and it wasn't really worth the effort to see if I could bring it back, largely because it wasn't enough to do much with anyway.
So, there's a fresh bug growing. I think I've had it go from nothing to working actively in about a week.
I have a jar of kombucha, and of apple/pear cider starter. The kombucha I started from nothing but ginger bug, and active vinegar (apple cider, and rice). It took about 4 batches before I was "about to give up" only to find that we had something working quite well.
I hope to be getting some of that in use. Certainly if it ends up being no good, that's fine too -

Dear friends, how do I make a bent piece of wire/rod in freecad 1.1.0?
I tried a draft of the shape. Attached a circle sketch to the end point with a datum plane, and tried to use AdditivePipe to get it to go brrr...
It started out nice, but it fell flat...See: flat:
