  1. So #AMD #MaterialX and Open Shading Language (OSL) were just a passing phase… now it looks like everyone’s settling on #OpenPBR. Back to square one, basically.
    Yay… let’s see if this one’s actually gonna stick this time. #PBR #CGI #VFX #3D #b3d #Blender #blender3D

  2. Today I read a comment on X from a guy saying he has visual snow syndrome and that his whole family has it too. Scrolling through the replies, I realized it’s way more common than I thought… man, what an awful condition.
So, when they do a 3D render, even if they use denoising it doesn’t make any difference? #visual #snow #syndrome #visualsnowsyndrome

  3. #SurfacePsycho for #Blender is straight-up amazing. Everything’s done with geometry nodes and you can just drop those nodes right into your own work.. next-level stuff here. #b3d #nurbs #CAD #procedural.
Here I used the SP Fit Curve to convert a bezier into CVs of a Nurbs Curve.

  4. These surfaces were both made with boundary curves. One was created in #b3d using #SurfacePsycho, the other in #FreeCAD with the Curves workbench using a Gordon surface. The #Blender one is simpler and matches the input curves perfectly, while the other has CVs high density #CAD

    Keep it simple...

EDIT: But if you use the FreeCAD Surface Workbench is the same as in Blender.

  5. Imagine if this model in #Blender was actually a native #NURBS surface that you could export as STEP or IGES and imagine being able to build proper #CAD models right inside #b3d using all its tools.
Sounds like a dream, right? Well, it’s 100% real just download #SurfacePsycho.

  6. Here’s a video showing some of the cool dynamic features you can get in #Blender using geometry nodes.
Basically, these two add-ons I use for reverse-engineering, both take advantage of the newer geometry nodes capabilities, one is #SurfacePsycho 🤩 , and the other is #SurAce 🤩, a really great add-on that can generate dynamic cross-sections of an STL or any other meshes model but also has tons of other tools for surface quality control. #b3d #CAD #ship #reverseengineering

  11. Doing reverse engineering with #Blender and #SurfacePsycho is insanely efficient and accurate.
Also, very few programs can even handle STL files from scans that are over 1.5 GB and that’s already the low-res version… the full raw scan is more than 50 GB. #b3d #Blender3d #CAD #ship #hull #boat #design #reverseengineering

  12. SubD are handy for modeling hulls, but trust me, nothing beats #SurfacePsycho when it comes to #CAD #hull modeling. Not even #Rhino3D or any other CAD software comes close to what Surface Psycho can do. #Nurbs #b3d #Blender3D #Blender #boat #design

  14. Just did a quick test! Exported from Blender with #SurfacePsycho and imported into FreeCAD as STEP. A few instances are rotated wrong, However it’s actually pretty impressive. #b3d #CAD

  15. So at this point in #Blender, #physics #simulations are basically done only with geometry nodes. Engines like #Mantaflow and #Bullet, or any other external engine, are pretty much a thing of the past now. #b3d #Blender3d

  16. I don’t have much time these days, but I’ve started this model as a starting point so I can begin using #SurfacePsycho.
Every now and then, when I get a bit of free time, I add a few surfaces here and there. #b3d #Blender #Blende3D #CAD #nurbs

  17. I tried using #SurfacePsycho's Fit Patch on a #CAD mesh model, overall the result isn't bad, but unfortunately the surfaces it generates have these cuts/gaps that you then have to fix manually.
Otherwise, when you try to export to IGES or STEP, it just throws an error. #b3d #Blender3d #Nurbs

  18. It’s seriously cool to have #NURBS working this well in #Blender. #SurfacePsycho is still alpha, fingers crossed the Blender team steps in to help out. #b3d #CAD

  19. Using the #SurfacePsycho geometry node, you can turn a simple SubD surface into a properly trimmed #NURBS patch.
In the video I showing how to convert a mesh with a SudD modifier into a NURBS patch that you can then use directly with #b3d Surface Psycho or export. #CAD #blender3d
