  1. We had a new player in the group last night and we started to realize how many inside jokes we have accumulated over the years.

One of the player's mentioned I have banned all ten foot poles in existence. They were exaggerating but still made a point of how they were a little salty about not being able to get a ten foot pole.

So, being the unfunny GM I am, I had to explain to the new player that I am not against ten foot poles if you go make one, I just think it is silly that there would be an "adventuring shop" and in the shop they sell ten foot poles. Finely crafted ten foot poles for adventurers! To go into dungeons and poke stuff.

They could also find a carpenter or a wood worker and request one.

I also said I find it highly unlikely a dungeon explorer would drag around an un-collapsible ten foot pole. Doorways, small passages. Plus the annoying effect of accidentally smacking your fellow adventures in the face with a pole as you turn around.

It just starts to lean into things like "there are a whole bunch of adventurers in the world" and "there are a whole bunch of dungeons in the world" and there are specialized shops for it. What else would be in such shops?

  2. Hadn't revisited 'Brütal Legend' since first playing it back in 2013, and it felt fitting to finally check out the Steam copy of the game that I had sitting there for years.

Still fun to play, and still kind of wild how much under the radar it flew, considering it starred Jack Black as the main character, had several big names in the metal scene involved (including Ozzy Osbourne as the Guardian of Metal), and had hands down one of the most impressive licenced soundtracks out there, with 107 songs by 75 different bands including Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Motörhead, Scorpions, Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Skeletonwitch, 3 Inches of Blood, Quiet Riot, and a ton of others.

  7. Reading some of the wikis and such about Ozzy going back to the early 1980s and laughing about the circumstances. Having lived through all that and being more or less in the middle of it from a fan point of view, it's amazing anything actually got done. The story around Randy Rhoads, Quiet Riot, and the US Festival...just wow...all the drama of a soap opera...

  9. #Adwent_Z_Duchami Dzień 9! 🎄👻

Softcult tworzą bliźniaczki Mercedes i Phoenix Arn-Horn. Mają do swojej twórczości podejście mocno DIY.

  22. Haunted Owlbear's Halloween Games, 2022/10/09 - Don't Open the Doors (2016, Anton Riot)

Anton Riot's Don't Open The Doors is a delightfully squishy isometric claymation action adventure with distinctive graphics and complementary level design.

The world had been invaded by doors to strange pocket universe dungeons infested by dangerous monsters, corrupting the area around each portal and making random objects sentient, mouthy and occasional hostile. It's packed with giant pumpkins, massive mushrooms and sundry squishy insects.

You are... Some dude who will soon some into posession of a large hammer, who's been tasked with blowing the main door up to put a stop to these things incursions. But the guards who're supposed to help you just want you gone, and throw you out of the city without your megabomb.

You rapidly makes friends with Ray, who can conveniently make a new megabomb, if you can find the ingredients. But you'll have to explore the dungeons beyond the doors and undertake missions to find then and level up your skills ready to take on the final challenge.

The claymation is exquisite and the gameplay is an open homage to Bastion, which is hardly something to complain about.

The world is relatively open but a quest log helps you stick to your task list while exploring the doors for upgrades, and you can pick and choose which order you want to tackle them, if at all. Splatting foes and environmental objects with your sledgehammer is eternal satisfying, and the music is this fantastic folk meets Danny Elfman with occasional distorted guitar flourishes affair.

Don't Open the Doors is a sensory treat and an obvious labour of love, which makes it easy to overlook its flaws. The dialogue and characterisation mostly involve sarcastic insults, and the English dialogue is more than a little rough around the edges.

Although the setting is visually inspired and immediately engaging, the plot and lore, such as they are, slide off the brain, making little impression. Combat is a little uninspiring and many enemies are better avoided than taken out, although whacking stuff with a giant hammer is always a solid choice.

DOTD has its weak points, but it's fun to play, lends itself to casual gaming, and definitely has that Extremely Halloween vibe (giant pumpkin boss! giant pumpkin boss!) and holy crap, that claymation is amazing.

It runs well on both the Steam Deck and my Pop!_OS Linux desktop via SteamPlay Proton.

Buy Don't Open the Doors on Steam for 10,99€ at store.steampowered.com/app/533
    Watch for spooky season sales.

There's a less spooky survival/life sim sequel, Disdoored, that appears to have been abandoned in early access. You can find it at store.steampowered.com/app/845

  23. kamikaze Are Back With New Track

With “X Me Out”, kamikaze release an energetic reckoning with experienced
transgressive behaviour. As the fourth single from their debut album “The End”,
announced for release this year, the song stands for clarity, determination, and
self-protection. Distorted guitars, dark synthesizer sounds, and a nervously urgent pop foundation that leaves no room for rest: Riot Grrrl meets Sabrina the
    Teenage Witch.

kamikaze are the charged antagonism of anger and enthusiasm. Since 2017,
the duo from Cologne and Düsseldorf has been breaking down the boundaries
between pop appeal and punk attitude: dreamy melancholy meets rebellious
euphoria. They describe their sound as “soft riot pop”, a mixture of bittersweet
melodies, a clear stance, and a lived DIY culture. The lyrics are relatable, subversive, emotional, and resistant all at once.

Jessi (vocals & guitar) and Flo (guitar) are no short-lived hype – rather, they are
a determined counter-movement to posturing. With no formal musical training
and growing up in a reactionary small-town environment, they founded kamikaze as an escape and a form of self-empowerment. They taught themselves
to play instruments and organized concerts and releases themselves – without
a label or management. The DIY ethos runs through everything: from recording
with a 4-track recorder to self-produced music videos and cassette releases.

For “X Me Out”, kamikaze put their melancholic and thoughtful side on the
back burner. Loud and unmistakably, they confront exclusion with a conscious
refusal to belong. The song oscillates between destructive thoughts of revenge
and constructive letting go. Ultimately, the mantra-like chorus forms a defiant
cut: out of the toxic situation, into self-assertion. Triggered by own experiences
and the misogyny that continues to rage, music, zines, and sitcoms of the 1990s
became a refuge – and then a source of inspiration for “X Me Out”. The result is
a song that sounds like a cross over an old story. And what better way to start
    a new year?

Friendship, and a Prank Involving “the Biggest Bras and Panties That You Could Buy”

The stars of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery and Wicked: For Good reminisce about dance parties, The Big Chill’s lost epilogue, and the joy of gazing into Josh O’Connor’s eyes.

By Rebecca Ford, December 10, 2025

In Reunited, Vanity Fair hosts a conversation between two Oscar contenders who have collaborated on a previous project.

Glenn Close and Jeff Goldblum had a ball making The Big Chill, which follows a group of 30-somethings who reunite for a weekend after a friend’s unexpected death. There were dance parties, pranks, and lifelong bonds formed on the set of Lawrence Kasdan’s film, which was packed with actors who would go on to become big stars: Tom Berenger, William Hurt, Kevin Kline, Mary Kay Place, Meg Tilly, and JoBeth Williams, in addition to Close and Goldblum.

In the 42 years since Close and Goldblum starred in that seminal film—which earned the former her second Oscar nomination—the actors have remained close while building diverse, powerful résumés. Proof of their illustrious careers comes just minutes into our Reunited conversation, when Goldblum asks Close if she’s kept a lot of her costumes, and she reveals that she’s actually got some 1,000 pieces archived at Indiana University. “It makes me so happy,” Close says.

This year she took on another transformative role as devout church lady Martha Delacroix in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, while Goldblum reprised his role as the Wizard in Wicked: For Good. Each a legend in their own right, these two continue to surprise audiences with whimsical but grounded characters—and they’re the first to say they’re having a blast doing it.

Here, the longtime friends discuss The Big Chill’s lost epilogue, what they do when they’re not agreeing with a director, and working with legends like Mike Nichols, Kasdan, and Sanford Meisner.

Editor’s Note: Watch the movie if you can. It’s good, and not just because I helped work to make it. More on that in a later post. –DrWeb

Vanity Fair: What do you remember about the first time you met?

Glenn Close: We did a table read [for The Big Chill]. Did you do the table read in New York?

Jeff Goldblum: No. I was out here and had an audition or two with Lawrence Kasdan and [producer] Michael Shamberg.

Close: I had dated Kevin [Kline]. He’s remained my friend, but I had dated Kevin and he was dating my best friend—

    Goldblum: Mary Beth Hurt.

Close: And then he had broken up with her for Diane Venora. Mary Beth was asked to read the part that Mary Kay [Place] ended up taking. And Diane Venora read the part that JoBeth [Williams] got, and Mary Beth found herself riding up in the elevator, I think, with Diane Venora—and she still was in love with Kevin. And Bill Hurt was her ex-husband!

    Goldblum: Wow. That’s a movie.

Close: I always thought that’s why she didn’t get the part. It was too politically laden.

Goldblum: That’s a riot. How long did you go with Kevin? I don’t want to pry.

Close: Not very long. I think maybe we broke up when he ditched me for Gilda Radner at the Tonys.

What do you two remember from filming The Big Chill?

Close: We had the best time. Do you remember? There was an epilogue to The Big Chill originally, and it’s actually what made me really want to do the movie, because it made me cry. This epilogue was all of us at college. We all flew to Atlanta and we shot the epilogue first.

Goldblum: Yes. With my big fake beard and a wig. Did you ever see a cut of that movie with that in?

    Close: Yes.

Goldblum: I did too. I’ve always been moved by that too.

Close: Remember the epilogue [which was cut from the final film]? It was Thanksgiving, and of course [my character] was organizing everything. Everybody was around the table, and I had asked Kevin Costner [whose scenes were all cut from the finished film] to carve the turkey. And the last line was Kevin Kline saying— …

–DrWeb

    𝟮.𝟲. 𝗘𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗮 - půda - 𝟭𝟴:𝟬𝟬 - 𝟭𝟬𝟬% 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁

    𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗗𝗘𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗘 - hardcore/punk US
    https://generationdecline.bandcamp.com

    𝗦.𝗣.𝗢.𝗧.𝗦. - anarchopunk/hardcore
    https://spotscz.bandcamp.com

    𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗞 𝗫 𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗢𝗡 - fastcore/powerviolence
    https://markxrentonpv.bandcamp.com

    + tba

My s tim jsme ok, hlavně přijď.

Jako festivaly Riot Over River - společně proti rasismu a Žižkovská noc, jako Mad Duck booking, jako Evil Production, jako fanzin The Punkavec, jako kapely.... a jako vobyčejný lidi.. jasně říkáme: Musíme podpořit našeho napadenýho kamaráda, kterýho si náckové vyhlédli a dokopali!

Prosím, nezapomeňte použít možnost „Rodina a přátelé“ a uvést odkaz „Unterstützung für Atze”.
