  1. @thelinuxcast I'm doing the exact opposite myself. Ordered on Saturday a new rig and it's all #AMD, I've had a #Nvidia graphics card for as long as I can remember, first one was the Riva TNT2 #AGP card with a whopping 32MB RAM so I could play Quake 3 with my mates.
Today I get a brand new machine with a R9-7900 and a RX6600. I'm not going for the biggest, baddest and newest. I just wanted something that would stay on my desk for the coming years and work.

  2. @thelinuxcast All the best. Hope u start understanding the #declarative way of doing things in #NixOS with #Nix
    Here's a tip:
Set users mutable to false. So that u declaratively do #everything in the #config #file instead of #imperative methods. Also give #hashed #passwords if u are #porting between another PCs and want them to #work similarly.
To put it simply, do everything in nix #configurations to change the #state of the #system.

  4. @thelinuxcast just been listening to ep 215 "The Everything for Everybody Episode" and got to you talking about #android #EBookReaders. I use #ReadEra, and i think its very good. Its proprietary, but it has no ads*, and is pretty customisable. (And it doesn't have internet permissions.)

*They sometimes do fullscreen popups for the paid version, but they're not obnoxious

I've also used #Librera, which is FOSS, with extreme customisation, but I'm more used to ReadEra.

  10. Did the just get a tall player? What just happened? Don't they know we only get old and short guys?

  11. It was a good season, #Dubs. Not great, but good. Sad that it ended with Steph out, but what can you do? Jimmy is good, but he's not what we all hoped he would be. The team keeps getting older and still refuses to add someone tall. Might be time to see about rebooting.

  12. My biggest issue with GoToSocial and polymaths so far is that I can't get the #dubs hashtag to show up at all. All the rest do, but for some reason that's blocked. #warriors is also not here.

  13. Welp, looks like the #dubs are taking the night off.

  14. You know, Podz had those four really good games towards the end, and hasn't done shit since.

  15. What is it about the 3qtr that always causes the to fall apart?

  16. At this point I don't even care how the do in the playoffs. If the Lakers lose in the first round, I'd be happy.

  17. Not a great way to close the game

  18. @thelinuxcast The real question out of this trade, at least for me, is what the fuck are the doing? The Lakers are squeezing every ounce out of a 40+ yo LeBron. The meanwhile, seem to think that they can stand pat and do nothing. This is not a good time to be a Warriors fan.

  19. update:

I installed and customized . Installed . Now I can easily move between panes with a mouse or with a keyboard.

has been a fun way to surf the web. I can confirm that @geerlingguy & @thelinuxcast sites look good on Lynx

Running and give it that “hacker” feel. Now I just need to find a reader.

  20. Currently listening to the @thelinuxcast episode on old tech.

So far the oldest devices that I am still using are both #Macbooks.

The newer of the macbooks is a 2013/14 Macbook Pro running #OpenSUSE #Slowroll has 8 gigs RAM and a Haswell chip. Current DE is #Gnome and #Floorp is my main browser. It's running like a champ. The only things that slow it down have been Gnome Software and Package ID.

The older Macbook Pro (2011) is currently running Snow Leopard with 16 gigs of RAM and Sandy Bridge chip. #PowerFox has been my go to web browser. Web browsing has been pretty decent. I notice some slowdown when loading sites with lots of adds and pictures.

Outside of some Broadcom issues, old Macboks hold up pretty well.

The #famous 46% #freeze in the #GUI #installer of #NixOS. If u open the #cli view there ull see that #nix actually builds stuffs for u from 46% , since #calamares isn't designed to know those, it might look like it freezes at 46% but it's actually #installing.

Sharing this incase u are wondering about that #behaviour.

I liked #lollypop very much few years ago. Installed it recently and can't handle it anymore, it became unwieldy so I switched to #strawberry
