  1. I'm reading #TheClimateBook by Greta Thunberg and learning a LOT!

I'm struck by the parallels between the #ClimateCrisis & the #pandemic in terms of how, in both cases, addressing the problem requires people to completely change norms & behaviors.

A couple times, the book (published in 2022 & so written even earlier) holds up the covid pandemic as an example of how "in times of crisis... our societies can quickly change our behaviors and practices, for example wearing a mask..." (p. 367)

  2. Yikes. 😬

Any time covid is even mentioned now, it's to say that we're "past the winter surge" and "#wastewater levels are decreasing".

But my area's "decreasing" wastewater is still high!! And now, the latest #biobot data shows my area's wastewater is back up to recent PEAK values!

And still schools and hospitals and "public health" will do NOTHING to prevent infections. 😠

  3. Just spent my entire evening translating the lyrics for Bo Wang's Chinese version of "The First Cut is the Deepest" from #TheBrothersSun soundtrack. 😁

Yes, it took all evening because my Mandarin is conversational at best (just like Bruce Sun's 😂), plus the lyrics I found were in simplified characters, but I only know traditional so had to look up a bunch of words. 😄

  4. I recently saw Disney's #AmericanBornChinese & Netflix's #TheBrothersSun. Let me just say --

OMG. The #ChineseAmerican representation is AMAZING!! Seeing familiar cross-cultural parent-child dynamics, characters speaking #Mandarin & eating tomatoes stir-fried with scrambled eggs, all in mainstream pop culture entertainment?!

Teenage me never even imagined how validating & comforting seeing pieces of myself on TV could be. So glad kids today are growing up with it.

  5. I LOVE my new #Aranet4 sticker!! It'll make explaining #CO2Monitoring so much easier.

People deserve to know if 2% or more of the air they breathe is someone else's exhale. Personally, I think the "ick factor" is like 2% of drinking water being someone else's spit.

Even if I have no power to change anything based on CO2 readings, at least I can know that my wearing a #mask is justified.

  10. It works out rather nicely for me that pandemic times made unmanned candy tables socially acceptable for neighborhood #TrickOrTreating. #Introvert #Halloween

  14. I had a super busy summer and the start of the school year is always a bit stressful, which means it's been waaaaay too long since I've written #PostcardsToVoters.

I'm thrilled to get outside on this gorgeous fall day to write in support of #VoteYESon1 to end Ohio's abortion ban.

  19. Upsettingly, a week before the concert, the venue cancelled the show due to poor ticket sales!!!

But #HawthorneHeights, the festival organizers, being SO AMAZING, did not give up! They found a replacement venue for the same date and time - only it was INDOORS!! 😩 😭

I was so disappointed. My teen has been struggling, and she needed this concert. I didn't have the heart to say no.

So against my better covid-cautious judgment, we #MaskedUp, went to the show, and crossed our fingers. 🤞

  20. Getting #chemo left me w/ #ChemoBrain. Very often, specific words feel elusive, like they're in my mind but I can't grab them. I have to re-read sentences for comprehension.

Others dismiss my symptoms as typical of aging, but I'm in my 40s, far from elderly.

The #BrainFog of #LongCovid reminds me of chemo brain. Now if I mention chemo brain, others say, "Oh yes, I have that too, we're just getting older!"

Somehow they've normalized cognitive decline & don't consider it might be long covid. 🤷🏻‍♀️

  21. Taking my very first pandemic-era flights. ✈😬

Got my trusty #Aranet4 for #CO2Monitoring. With these readings, I feel confident & validated in my #mask. 😷

U.S. domestic flight had masking rate of ~10%, more than expected!

International flight to Asia had even more masks, but still a small minority. Almost all flight attendants #MaskedUp.

Lots of #masking at Asian airport. Maybe 1/2 of staff in masks, minority of travelers. Overall still a minority, but significant & visible!

  22. IQAir says my area's #AirQualityIndex is 127, "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups".

Biobot's #wastewater monitoring says my area's covid concentration is 372 copies/mL, roughly twice the lowest values in 2022.

I'm leaving the comfort of my air-purified home and wearing a KF94 both indoors and outdoors. 😫

  23. Life's been busy and stressful and I am THRILLED to be writing #PostcardsToVoters again after a hiatus of several months.

Hoping these #vote nudgers will help get Donna Deegan elected Mayor of Jacksonville, FL on May 16! #ChangeForGood

  24. I especially appreciate Jeff Yang's bold and brave writing because it puts into words the feelings I had but did not know how to express.

As an Asian American, I have personally been treated as a "perpetual foreigner". When I heard the #MontereyPark and #HalfMoonBay shooters were Asian, I grimly thought, "Are we American enough for you now?"
